⚽️🥊 Bayern Munich (vs Stuttgart) and Otabek Kholmatov (vs Thomas Patrick Ward) @1.88
Defending Champions, Bayern Munich, travel to Stuttgart with both good and bad news. On one hand, we could have Sadio Mané make his first Bundesliga start since November after suffering an injury that saw him miss the FIFA World Cup. Prior to his injury, Mane had scored 11 goals in 23 games and had provided 4 assists. On the other hand, it was announced on Wednesday that Leroy Sané could miss a few games after picking up an ankle injury in training, and this provides Julian Nagelsmann with a fresh headache. However, a trip to the Mercedes-Benz Arena may be just what the team needs. Though they’ve drawn their last two Bundesliga games against Stuttgart, Bayern have won 67 of their 107 league games to the hosts – the most by a German team against a single opponent. Stuttgart last grabbed a home win over the Bavarians back in 2007 (3-1) when Mario Gomez put two goals past current Bayern CEO, Oliver Kahn. Since then, they’ve lost 10 straight at home to the reigning champions.
Last weekend, Stuttgart lost to last placed Schalke, missing the chance to widen the gap between them and the relegation zone by three points. It undid the good work of the 3-0 victory over Cologne the week before and there are now just three points separates them from Schalke and only goal difference separates them from Hoffenheim and Bochum who complete the bottom four. Stuttgart have also conceded 98 home goals to Bayern. No team has ever scored 100 Bundesliga goals away at one club and Julian Nagelsmann will be aiming to not just take all 3pts but to create German history.
In the featherweight boxing bout set to take place in Newcastle, Otabek Kholmatov, a 24-year-old from Uzbekistan, will face 28-year-old Thomas Patrick Ward, who boasts an undefeated record of 33 wins and a draw in 34 fights. Kholmatov is also unbeaten with 10 wins, but his knock-out record is particularly noteworthy with 9 of his victories coming by way of knock-out (90%). In contrast, Ward has only 5 knock-out wins in his career, representing 15% of his total victories. Despite Ward’s experience, having made his debut in 2012 and accumulated significantly more professional rounds than Kholmatov, the latter is expected to have the advantage due to his impressive power.
⚽️🥊PSG (vs Nantes) and Davies O’hara (vs Lewis Ritson) @2.30
PSG’s 3-0 win over Marseille was important because it further widened the gap between them and their 2nd placed opponent but also because Christophe Galtier’s game plan – which was based on the team’s newly implemented 3-5-2 set-up – fully utilized Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé in Neymar’s absence. With a key trip to Bayern Munich in the Champions League looming, this is perhaps the more important of the two. Their use of Nuno Mendes on the left and a fully fit Achraf Hakimi on the right could cause problems for the visitors as they aim for their 20th league win in 26 games. With each of the previous 6 teams to achieve thisgoing on to be Champions, the Parisians will be hoping to continue that streak.
The hosts will be missing a few players which could make this game a little bit tricky especially as they’ll have an eye on the trip to Munich. Presnel Kimpembe will miss the rest of the season with an achilles tear, joining Neymar and Renato Sanches on the sidelines. Marco Verratti (who leads the league in yellow cards) will be serving a one-game suspension after picking up his 8th caution of the season. However, with league’s top scorer Kylian Mbappé and the newly crowned FIFA The Best Men’s Player of the Year, Lionel Messi, they should have enough firepower to get all 3 pts against a 13th place Nantes side whose 46% loss rate against them is their highest against a single team in the competition.
In a Super Lightweight boxing match set to take place in Newcastle, Davies O’hara will face off against Lewis Ritson. Both boxers have similar career records, having begun their professional careers in the mid-2010s. O’hara has won 24 fights and lost 2, while Ritson has won 23 and lost 2 as well. However, O’hara’s impressive 71% knockout rate gives him a slight edge over Ritson, who has a knockout rate of 57%. Additionally, O’hara has remained unbeaten in his last 5 matches, with his most recent win coming against Ismael Barroso in a 10-round contest in Dubai on 26th November 2021. On the other hand, Ritson suffered a TKO loss to Jeremias Ponce in one of his last 5 matches back in 2021. While Ritson’s most recent fight was 11 months and 6 days ago, O’hara has had a longer break of 1 year, 3 months, and 5 days meaning O’hara is fresher and healthier heading into the fight.
⚽️🥊Juventus (vs AS Roma) and Shavkat Rakhmonov (vs Geoff Neal) to both Win @3.80
The Old Lady seem to have caught a break lately and what was once a gloomy season might have an exciting end to it. 4 consecutive league wins have taken them from 10th to 7th position and, with 14 games left, they’re just 10 points away from a top 4 spot. Had they not been docked those 15 points, they would have been 2nd on the table, 3 pts off Inter which syas a lot about the turn around they’ve had. They also looked good against Nantes in the Europa League last week, with Ángel Di María netting his first hat-trick for the club while Paul Pogba made his much awaited second-debut for the club in Tuesday’s 4-2 derby win over Torino. They now travel to Roma to face the Giallorossi, who have lost 85 times in the league to them – their most to a single team.
AS Roma have problems to deal with, and it’ll be interesting to see how they handle this. Two losses and a draw in their last 5 games meant they failed to capitalize on Inter, Milan and Lazio’s dropped points over the last 5 games and, as a result, they remain 5th. In their Tuesday loss to then 20th placed Cremonese, José Mourinho was sent off for the 3rd time this season and received a 2-match ban to go with his €10,000 fine. The Special One, who is currently threatening legal action against the referee, said: “I don’t want to get into the fact that he (fourth official) is from Turin, that we have to play Juventus, and he wants me off the touchline.” hinting at being deliberating provoked by the fourth official in the lead up to the red card. “I don’t want to get into that. I want to get into the fact that for the first time in my career, a referee, and in this case a fourth official, spoke to me in an unacceptable way.” With José Mourinho away from the touchline, Juventus should find it a bit easier to record their 4th win in 5 against AS Roma.
In the UFC, Shavkat Rakhmonov, who remains undefeated with a record of 16-0-0, is set to face Geoff Neal (15-4-0) in the T-Mobile Arena in Nevada. Rakhmonov is an all-around skilled fighter and a frequent finisher, often winning fights before they even reach the third round. He is a master of both combat Sambo and MMA, making him a formidable opponent in the cage. Rakhmonov is a powerful kickboxer, capable of delivering devastating knees and kicks, and he is also proficient in wrestling and can easily overpower his opponents. Furthermore, he has a talent for snatching up the neck in exchanges. While Neal has a two-fight winning streak and is known for his heavy hands, with 9 of his wins coming from knockouts, he is still the major underdog in this fight. As a southpaw kickboxer, he employs a double threat approach with his left hand and kick, and has also demonstrated his ability to counterpunch effectively. This fight will undoubtedly be challenging, but Rakhmonov’s well-rounded skill set gives him the advantage over Neal.
⚽️🥊Real Madrid (vs Real Betis) and Jon Jones (vs Ciryl Gane) to Both Win @2.92
The big story out of Real Betis is the loss of star attacker, Nabil Fekir after suffering an ACL tear. The Champions League hopefuls will be without him for the rest of the season and, with Sergio Canales already out injured, even more attention will be on Borja Iglesias, the league’s 3rd highest top scorer. Real Betis are 5th in LaLiga, just 2 pts away from Atlético and they’re well aware that having won 3 in a row, another win could see them leapfrog Diego Simeone’s side. However, having gone winless in their 5 games against Real Madrid since Manuel Pellegrini arrived (D2, L3), it’ll be tough to get a win.
Los Blancos will be looking for a bounce back win when they travel to Benito Villamarin. 2 dropped points to Atlético in the derby over the weekend was followed by a loss to Barcelona in the first leg of the Copa del Rey at the Santiago Bernabéu. They’ve won 5 of their last 6 visits to Real Betis in LaLiga including a memorable 6-1 win in 2016. With Fekir and Canales both absent for the home side, Carlo Ancelotti’s side look good for a win.
Jon Jones is set to face off against Ciryl Gane in the UFC, both having one loss each. However, Jones, with a record of 26-1, boasts 15 more wins than Gane (11-1) and is heavily favored to win. Jones is known for his effective strategizing, and his ability to adapt his skills to different opponents has elevated him to greatness in the MMA world. As he prepares for his Heavyweight debut, he has made it a priority to watch footage of Gane and has been successful in identifying Gane’s habits and pinpointing major weaknesses in the French fighter’s game. This fight is expected to draw a large audience, and Jones’ preparation has been fruitful.
Gane, a former football player who discovered a passion for muay Thai, represents the aspirations of many regarding heavyweight athletes transitioning to mixed martial arts. He not only has an impressive physique but also demonstrates a remarkable ability to learn and execute techniques beyond his experience level. He is proficient at switching stances and shifting the tempo of his attacks, using techniques such as changing the speed of his kicks and pot-shotting punches and checks. Gane is fully capable of frustrating and punishing his opponents. However, going up against a more experienced fighter like Jon Jones could result in his second loss, despite his promising career.
