Manchester City vs Newcastle United

4 games without a win has put Eddie Howe in a difficult position ahead of his trip to Manchester to face the Blue side following defeat to the Red side in the Carabao Cup final. The Magpies occupied the 3rd spot for a while but have now slipped to 5th and could slide further down to 7th if results at Anfield and the Gtech Community Stadium don’t go their way. Newcastle looked a bit ordinary against Man Utd in Sunday’s defeat, with the occasional brilliance of Allan Saint-Maximin and Jacob Murphy the only bright spots for them. Anthony Gordon is expected to feature in this game following his absence from the final (due to being cup-tied) while Nick Pope should be back between the sticks after serving his one-game ban. With a healthy and fully available team available, they’ll be looking to secure their first unbeaten season against Man City since 2004/05.

The Cityzens on the other hand know this will not be an easy game – their previous meeting at St. James Park proved this. Miguel Almiron, Callum Wilson and Kieran Trippier had the home side 3-1 after the hour-mark and Man City had to struggle to gain a point in what turned out to be a 6-goal thriller. Keeping up with Arsenal is proving a more difficult task for the reigning champions and with 13 games left, anything short of perfection could almost send the title to The Emirates. Though Newcastle have the best defense in the country, breaching it shouldn’t be much of a worry for Guardiola’s side. Man City have scored in each of their last 28 games against Newcastle in the Premier League and, in general, they’ve won 14 of their last 16 league games. However, Man City’s biggest worry is their defense, that has kept just 3 clean sheets in their last 16 EPL games.

PSG vs Nantes

The significance of PSG’s 3-0 victory over Marseille lies not only in the fact that it widened the gap between the two teams, with PSG now further ahead of their second-placed opponent, but also in the successful execution of Christophe Galtier’s game plan. The new 3-5-2 formation utilized Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé to their full potential, especially in the absence of Neymar. This win is especially important given their upcoming trip to face Bayern Munich in the Champions League. PSG’s use of Nuno Mendes on the left could prove problematic for their opponents as they aim to secure their 20th league victory in 26 games. It is worth noting that the previous six teams to achieve this have all gone on to become champions, so PSG will undoubtedly hope to continue this streak.

The upcoming game may pose a challenge for the hosts as they are missing several key players and are also looking ahead to their upcoming trip to Munich. Presnel Kimpembe’s achilles tear has ruled him out for the remainder of the season, joining Neymar and Renato Sanches on the sidelines. Achraf Hakimi’s absence could prove to be a distraction for the team as well. The Moroccan Right-Back is the subject of a sexual abuse investigation and is expected to miss the next few games while that is ongoing. Additionally, Marco Verratti, who currently leads the league in yellow cards, will be serving a one-game suspension following his 8th caution of the season. However, PSG still has the league’s top scorer, Kylian Mbappé, and the newly crowned FIFA The Best Men’s Player of the Year, Lionel Messi, which should provide them with enough firepower to secure all three points. This is especially true given that their opponent, Nantes, who are currently in 13th place, have lost 46% of their games against PSG, making it their highest loss rate against any single team in the competition.

VfB Stuttgart vs Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich, the defending champions, are facing both good and bad news as they prepare to travel to Stuttgart. The positive news is that Sadio Mané may make his first Bundesliga start since November, having recovered from an injury that caused him to miss the FIFA World Cup. Before his injury, Mané had scored 11 goals in 23 games and had provided 4 assists. On the other hand, Leroy Sané could miss several games due to an ankle injury sustained during training, which is a fresh concern for Julian Nagelsmann. Nonetheless, a visit to the Mercedes-Benz Arena may be exactly what the team needs. Despite having drawn their last two Bundesliga games against Stuttgart, Bayern has won 67 of their 107 league games against them, the highest number of victories by any German team against a single opponent. The last time Stuttgart managed a home win against Bayern was in 2007 when Mario Gomez scored two goals past current Bayern CEO, Oliver Kahn. Since then, they have lost 10 straight games at home against the reigning champions. Musiala – Bayern’s 11-goal top scorer this season – was born in the Stuttgart area, while Kimmich and Serge Gnabry are products of the VfB youth academy, which makes this tie even tastier.

Last weekend, Stuttgart lost to last placed Schalke, missing the chance to widen the gap between them and the relegation zone by three points. It undid the good work of the 3-0 victory over Cologne the week before and there are now just three points separates them from Schalke and only goal difference separates them from Hoffenheim and Bochum who complete the bottom four. Stuttgart have also conceded 98 home goals to Bayern. No team has ever scored 100 Bundesliga goals away at one club, and Julian Nagelsmann will be aiming to not just take all 3pts but to create German history.

Stuttgart manager, Labbadia scored 24 goals in 82 Bundesliga appearances for Bayern in the 1990s. As a coach, he’s lost 15 of 16 meetings to the record champions, including his last 13 in a row.

Barcelona vs Valencia

Barcelona snapped their 2-game losing streak with victory away at their bitter rivals, Real Madrid in the first leg of the Copa del Rey, and that must have felt good. The Catalans were knocked out of the Europa League following their 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford, but then suffered a shocking loss to Almeria despite have 73% of the ball. Real Madrid’s dropped points against Atlético last weekend meant their loss didn’t have much effect in the standings, as Los Blancos were only able to close the gap from 8 points to 7. Having been let off, Xavi and his players know they cannot afford to drop more points with Real Madrid wanting nothing more than to retain their league title. Against Valencia, whom they’ve beaten 4 times in a row (while scoring 3 goals or more goals in 3 of them), a chance to bounce back has never been better.

The visitors, Valencia, are having one of their worst seasons in recent memories. Their 12 losses in the league is the 3rd highest, and they currently sit in 18th position with relegation a very real possibility. Though they snapped their 5-game losing streak with a victory over 3rd place Real Sociedad, that wasn’t enough to lift them up from the relegation zone. Now, they face the daunting task of getting points off Barcelona, a team with the best defensive record in all of Europe’s Top 5 leagues (8 goals conceded).

Barcelona received an untimely injury blow from Lewandowski, who sustained a hamstring injury during the weekend’s loss to Almeria. Although the Catalans have not set a recovery timetable, it is certain that he will be unable to participate in the upcoming match. Additionally, Pedri and Ousmane Dembélé will also be absent from the lineup due to separate thigh injuries. However, there is some good news, as Xavi remains optimistic that Ansu Fati’s bruised knee will heal in time for the game.

Liverpool vs Manchester United

The Red Devils travel to Anfield in search of their first win since January 2016 having lost 3 and drawn 3 in their last 6 trips there. Despite being one of England’s premier’s fixtures, this game would mean even more to Erik ten Hag, whose 2-1 win in the reverse fixture instantly won the fans over following humiliating losses to Brighton (2-1) and Brentford (4-0) to start the season. On the other side, Jürgen Klopp will be hoping that while the reverse fixture helped breathe life into Man Utd’s season, this game would take the life out of it.

Mo Salah will be the man to keep an eye on in this tie. The Egyptian forward has scored 10 goals against Man Utd though, only 3 of those have come at Anfield. He grabbed the consolation goal in Liverpool’s Old Trafford back in August and scored a brace the last time Man Utd visited. He hasn’t had the most consistent season of his Liverpool career, but 19 goals and 9 assists makes him a goal threat regardless.

Man Utd’s Marcus Rashford is also a must-watch. His goal against Newcastle in the Carabao Cup was his 25th of the season and, having scored the winning goal when these two sides met earlier this season, he’ll be aiming to help his team secure their 9th Premier League double over their bitter rivals. Casemiro will also be key in this game. The former Real Madrid man has transformed Man Utd, and they’ve lost just twice when he’s started (vs. Real Sociedad and Aston Villa). With 5 goals and 5 assists for the Red Devils, he’s proving to be more than just a defensive juggernaut. However, it is worth mentioning that his 9 yellow cards & 1 red card could provide some value for bettors.

Man Utd’s run of 6 games without an Anfield win is their longest since a run of 9 between 1970 and 1979. They’ve also scored just once in their last 7 visits to Liverpool in all competitions. Despite their incredible league form which has seen them pick up the most points since the World Cup break (23), they could struggle except Erik ten Hag can come up some of that Dutch magic that has worked so well.

Real Betis vs Real Madrid

Los Verdiblancos struggled to find their form following the World Cup, but have regained their footing with three consecutive wins, including a chaotic 3-2 victory over Elche last week which featured 3 red cards as we rightly tipped in our preview last week. As a result, they now sit 5th in the table, just two points behind Atlético. Manuel Pellegrini’s leadership has turned Betis into one of the most thrilling teams in Europe, earning them back-to-back finishes in European competition, but now, he has set his sights on securing a Champions League spot, and a positive result against Los Blancos this weekend would represent a significant step forward in that direction. Sadly, they suffered a major blow with the loss of star forward Nabil Fekir, who suffered an ACL tear and will be out for the rest of the season. With Sergio Canales already out due to injury, the pressure is on Borja Iglesias, the league’s third-highest scorer.

On the other hand, Real Madrid will be seeking a rebound win as they travel to Benito Villamarin. Following a 2-2 draw with Atlético in the derby last weekend and a loss to Barcelona in the first leg of the Copa del Rey at Santiago Bernabéu, Real Madrid has been eager for a victory. They have won five of their last six LaLiga visits to Real Betis, including a memorable 6-1 win in 2016. With Fekir and Canales both absent for the home side, Carlo Ancelotti’s squad is in a good position to secure a win.
