Arsenal (vs Aston Villal) & Khusein Askhabov (vs Jamall Emmers) to Both Win @3.20
The Gunners finally surrendered their #1 position on top of the Premier League to reigning champions, Manchester City on Wednesday following a 3-1 defeat. Despite limiting Pep Guardiola’s side to just 35% of the possession – the lowest in his 15-year managerial career – Arsenal never really looked like doing serious damage, and City capitalized on their poor passing at the back. The defeat was Arsenal’s 11th in a row to Manchester City in the EPL, leaving the Gunners with no win in their last 4 games in all competitions, having collected just a single point from a possible 9 in their last 3 Premier League fixtures. In order to get their title challenge, Arsenal will have to face the man whose job Mikel Arteta took – Unai Emery.
Aston Villa enjoyed a brief spell of success against the Gunners, winning 3 consecutive EPL games between July 2020 and February 2021. However, Arsenal have since turned it around and won the last 3 of this fixture, including a 2-1 victory at The Emirates on the 31st of August when Steven Gerrard was still in charge. Only against West Ham (14) have the North Londoners won more Premier League away games than against Aston Villa (13), though, it must be said they have lost 2 of their last 3 visits to Villa Park. Aston Villa has picked up some impressive wins against the Top 6 as well as a few highflyers this season. They’ve beaten Manchester United, Spurs, Brighton and a had a massive 4-0 win over Brentford back in October. While a stern test is expected by the hosts and their manager, Unai Emery, The Gunners know they cannot afford to drop any more points if they want to end their 18-year wait for a league title and Arteta’s boys should be good for a win.
In the UFC, 27-year-old Chechnya-born fighter, Khusein Askhabov is scheduled to make his UFC debut, having remained unbeaten in 23 consecutive matches in the regional scene. Despite his impressive record and young age, Askhabov has not fought in almost three years which is rather odd. He faces his toughest challenge yet in Jamall Emmers, who has a record of 18-6, including a 1-2 record in the UFC. Emmers’ last fight was a first round loss to Pat Sabatini where a heel hook was his undoing. Though he is a slick striker and has a balance of wrestling and grappling moves, Emmers has no obvious advantage against Askhabov who has had the highest level of Muay Thai training available.
Liverpool (vs Newcastle) & Philipe Lins (vs Ovince Saint Preux) to Both Win @5.00
Newcastle has had an outstanding season and will get a chance to lift a silverware when they face Manchester United in the League Cup final next weekend. However, before then, they have to face one of only two teams to have beaten them this season and the only team to do so in the league – Liverpool. The Magpies were ahead at Anfield through Alexander Isak, but Liverpool turned it around to grab all 3-points courtesy a Firmino equalizer and a heartbreaking 98th min winner by Fabio Carvalho. That win was a record-tying 10th comeback win by a team against a single opponent in the Premier League, a record the Reds share with bitter rivals, Manchester United (also against Newcastle and Southampton).
Newcastle, who will be without a suspended Bruno Guimaraes, are currently on a 12-game winless streak against Liverpool, with their last victory coming all the way back in 2015. The Magpies would have been hoping to turn this around given Liverpool’s poor form this season, but the Reds’ 2-0 win at the Merseyside Derby might give them a bit of concern. Klopp’s side didn’t exactly look like their 2019/20 title-winning side, but they did enough to stifle Everton all game long. The win was Liverpool’s first in the league in 2023 and snapped a 4-game winless streak. New signings, Darwin Núñez and Cody Gakpo, impressed all game with the former providing an assist while the latter got his first goal for the club. In more positive news for the Reds, Firmino was back after a 10-game absence, Diogo Jota returned after a long term injury which saw him miss the FIFA World Cup while Virgil van Dijk was an unused sub. With Luis Diaz on the verge of coming back from injury, Klopp’s side are finally looking healthy, which is bad news for any English opponent.
Over at the UFC, two Light Heavyweights in the twilight of their careers will clash as part of UFC Fight Night 219 undercard when Philipe Lins (37) takes on Ovince Saint Preux (39). This will be Lins’ 4th match in a little under 600 days with 9 matches canceled in that period due to injuries and personal reasons. In his last fight, though, Lins beat Marcin Prachnio by a unanimous decision and is well aware that a victory this weekend will do him a lot of good.
Ovince Saint Preux, meanwhile, has lost 6 of his last 10 matches and will be the underdog this weekend. Though St. Preux is an experienced and dangerous Southpaw, Philipe Lins is a better striker and averages more Strikes per Minute (3.40 to St. Preux’s 2.72) and Strking Accuracy (49% to 47%). He also has a better winning percentage (75% to St. Preux’s 61%) and is expected to get the win.
Real Madrid (vs Osasuna) & Mauricio Lara (vs Leigh Wood) To Both Win @2.60
Carlo Ancelotti will have an eye on Tuesday’s Champions League fixture against Liverpool but he’ll have no choice but to field a very strong side when they visit Osasuna on Saturday. Barcelona’s 11 wins in 12 games have opened up an 8-point gap at the league summit and the reigning champions have to be borderline flawless for the rest of the season if they want to retain their title.
Historically, Osasuna hasn’t posed much threat to Real Madrid. The hosts are winless in 15 games against Los Blancos, their longest winless streak against a league opponent. They’ve also picked up just 1 point from losing positions this season – the lowest in the league alongside Atleti – and one early goal by Real Madrid is all that is needed to put this game to bed. Carlo Ancelotti’s side have been ruthless in front of goal in their last three games, scoring 13 goals in that period and they’ll have too much for Osasuna.
In the Boxing world, we’ll be picking against a man who isn’t lacking in confidence. In Leigh Wood’s own words: ‘I’ll Knock Mauricio Lara Out In Six Rounds!’ . The WBA-Super World Featherweight Champion will be defending his title for the second time against the Mexican in front of his home fans over at Nottingham. Mauricio Lara (24) is 10 years younger than Wood but has just one less win (25 to Wood’s 26) and will be hoping a career equalling win over the weekend will give him the title. Wood is a tall stand-up boxer who effectively utilizes his jab to maintain distance from his opponents. He has extensive experience and is known for his durability and toughness. During his last fight with Michael Conlan, Wood was knocked down in the first round and absorbed several clean shots. However, he adjusted his approach and persisted until the final round, where he delivered a knockout blow that has been considered a top contender for “KO of the year.”

Against Lara, though, he faces a young and ambitious fighter currently on a 15-game winning streak and eager to inflict a humiliating defeat on Woods. His fighting style is characterized by aggressive shots and a lack of respect for his opponents. In February 2021, he surprised the world by stunning Josh Warrington, and he now seeks to achieve a similar result against Leigh Wood, almost two years later.
PSG (vs Lille) & Jessica Andrade (vs Erin Blanchfield) To Both Win @4.30
The French Champions have hit their first major stumbling block of the season, and it’ll be interesting to see how they respond when they welcome 5th place Lille to Parc des Princes. They’ve lost 3 games in a row, which each loss coming in a different competition. While they still hold a relatively comfortable 5-pt lead in Ligue 1, they’ve been knocked out of the Coupe de France and are on the verge of being knocked out of the Champions League after a narrow home loss to Bayern Munich. Luckily for them, star forward, Kylian Mbappé has returned from injury way ahead of schedule and with him on the pitch, they always stand a better chance of winning.
When both sides met earlier this season, PSG delivered an outstanding performance, with Christophe Galtier’s side winning 7-1. Mbappé grabbed a hat-trick while Neymar (2), Messi and Hakimi were also on the scoresheet. Last season, PSG did the double over Lille with an aggregate score of 7-2 over both games. It’s hard to see this ending up differently, especially with Mbappé expected to start and PSG should easily win this to snap their losing streak.
In the Main Event of UFC Fight Night 219, 23-year-old Erin Blanchfield takes on former straw weight champion, Jessica Andrade. Blanchfield (10-1) is coming off a career best win over Molly McCann and looks to continue her run with win an eighth straight fight. She last lost in 2019 and a win would put her to the top of her division, but Jessica Andrade will provide a stern test. Andrade, who comes in on short notice as a replacement for Taila Santos, is 3-0 since losing to Valentina Shevchenko in 2021. She’s an extremely physical fighter, and the 31-year-old Brazilian comes in with a wealth of experience. 9 of her 24 career wins have come from KOs and TKOs and Blanchfield will have her work cut out for her when trying to survive her strikes. While having just under a month to prepare for this fight presents a slight concern, Jessica Andrade is aiming to take advantage of the momentum built over her 3 straight wins.
Manchester United (vs Leicester City) & Jamal Pogues (vs Josh Parisian) To Both Win @2.44
Manchester United didn’t show any sign of their tough schedule wearing them down in Thursday’s draw against Barcelona. Both sides delivered one of the most entertaining European games this season, worthy of being a semi-final. Before they welcome the Catalans to Old Trafford for the return leg, they first have to entertain a Leicester City side that seems to have turned a corner since James Maddison returned from injury. The Foxes have 3 wins and a draw in their last 4 games in all competitions, with their last two wins (4-2 vs Aston Villa & 4-1 vs Spurs) the standout wins as it proved their resilience after they conceded first in both games. Brendan Rodgers will test the Red Devils, but the hosts are on a hot streak right now.
Erik ten Hag guided his team to a slim 1-0 win when both sides met earlier this season, and he’ll be expecting a repeat outcome on Sunday. Man Utd have scored at least once in 27 Premier League games against Leicester City. Only Man City (28) against Newcastle has a longer active record. With Marcus Rashford showing no sign of slowing down in front of goal, this run is expected to continue over the weekend and the Red Devils should grind out a result against the Foxes.
Jamal Pogues is set to make his debut in the UFC against Josh Parisian, who is facing some concerns about his health. Parisian had to withdraw from a previous fight due to heart palpitations in November but has since been cleared to compete. However, Pogues, a deceptively fast fighter who may be smaller in size, is expected to test Parisian’s endurance. Parisian has not won consecutive fights in the UFC in his career, and Pogues aims to take advantage of this, as well as his health issues. The fight could be a messy affair and potentially longer than expected, but Pogues is focused on securing a debut victory.
