EPL is Back

The Premier League is back!

After the highly entertaining intermission the Qatar 2022 World Cup provided, the Premier League returns on December 26th for its traditional Boxing Day fixture, and we can’t wait to see the action return.

Here are previews and betting tips for all seven Boxing Day matches.

Last time out, Brentford pulled off the biggest upset of game week 16 by beating Manchester City 2-1 at the Etihad. That result was Brentford’s first win in four matches and helped them go into the World Cup break in the top half of the table.

Tottenham, on the other hand, had lost three of their last four matches before a hard-fought 4-3 win against Leeds ensured they were still in the race for the title.

Form Guide

The Bees have had a patchy season so far; with only four wins all season long, they have gotten most of their points by playing stalemates against opponents. Brentford have played out seven draws this season, the highest number in the league.

However, two of their four wins this season have come against Manchester United and Manchester City, showing they are unafraid of tough opposition.

Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs had an excellent start this season, starting with seven games without a loss; however, they have since fallen behind the leaders after losing three of their last five league matches.

Antonio Conte’s team is now fourth in the table, one point behind third-placed Newcastle and eight points behind league leaders Arsenal.

The World Cup has taken its toll on a Tottenham side that was already contending with injuries before the break.

It remains to be seen how quickly they are able to reintegrate the World Cup contingent into the team and how much fatigue plays a factor in their performance.

Brentford is a dangerous side on their day, but the league’s resumption has been overshadowed by news of star striker Ivan Toney’s FA investigation for breaking betting rules.

Nevertheless, this will be an entertaining match to kick off the Boxing Day fixtures. In the end, a draw is likely here as both teams shake off the cobwebs of the break.

Bet on

  • Draw  @ 3.75
  • Over 1.5 goals @ 1.27
  • Both teams to score @ 1.66

Premier League PNG Image - PNG All Crystal Palace vs Fulham

Crystal Palace and Fulham have a nearly identical record this season, both teams have five wins and four draws each, with Fulham edging their fellow London side by only goal difference.

Fulham will make the short trip to South London hoping to get all three points that will help propel them up a tightly contested league mid-table.

Form Guide

Crystal Palace

The Eagles’ Achilles’ heel this season has been taking points away from Selhurst Park. They have won only once away from home, picking up six points in total from their travels, compared to the four wins they have picked up at home.

Fulham looked Premier League-ready upon their return to the top division. Picking up five wins and four draws so far has helped the Cottagers go into Christmas in the top half of the table. However, they have only won twice away from home all season, making the trip to Selhurst a difficult one.

Marco Silva will be keen to stop a two-match losing skid his team has had. The World Cup should have provided the opportunity for a reset, luckily, they have Aleksandar Mitrovic fully recovered from the injury that kept him out of those two losses.

They will have a tough time against Crystal Palace, whom they have not beaten in their last five attempts. Both teams are evenly matched right now, but Crystal Palace have the advantage of playing in front of their fans, a fact that might give them the edge in what promises to be a tight affair.

Our betting picks

  • Over 1.5 goals @ 1.31
  • Both teams to score @ 1.73
  • Over 3.5 bookings @ 1.91
  • Over 8.5 corners @ 1.43

Premier League PNG Image - PNG All Everton vs Wolves

Everton’s poor form this season has led some to call for the sacking of Frank Lampard, but the Everton management has kept faith in the former Chelsea manager for now.

However, there is the sense that it is now or never for Everton as they hang just above the relegation zone, just four points off the bottom.

Wolves have had it worse and must think the only way is up for them as they prop up the table with only ten points from fifteen matches played this season.

Form Guide

Most worryingly for Everton, they have not been in the top half of the table all season, with their highest position being 11th. In seven matches, they picked up only four points from a possible 21 and won only once in their last seven matches.

Everton have also blanked in their last three matches, last scoring in their 3-0 win against Crystal Palace.

Preview: Everton vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers - prediction, team news, lineups - Sports Mole

After only fifteen matches played, Wolves find themselves in a relegation battle and they are losing right now. They have won only twice this season and have picked up just one point from their last five matches.

A manager change has done little to change Wolves’ fortunes, but an EFL Cup win on Wednesday against Gillingham should have provided the confidence boost needed before the resumption of Premier League action.

Everton is in the perfect position to pick up their first win in four matches against a team that has only picked up two points on their travels all season.

Our betting picks

  • Everton to win @ 2.35
  • Over 1.5 goals @ 1.38
  • Only one team to score @ 1.91
  • Over 3.5 bookings @ 1.40
  • Over 8.5 corners @ 1.33

Premier League PNG Image - PNG All Leicester City vs Newcastle

Two of the most in-form teams go head-to-head at St. James Park, with the question being whether they can pick up from where they left off before the World Cup break.

Leicester City

Leicester turned around a poor run at the start of the season, where they lost six matches in a row, to pick up 12 points from a possible 18 and move out of the relegation zone into 13th place, just two points off the top half of the table.

A lot of that was due to the mercurial form midfielder James Maddison was in; however, a knock just before the World Cup kept him out of action in Qatar, and it is unknown how fit he is right now.

Newcastle United - Leicester City 4 Newcastle United 0

The Magpies had won five consecutive matches before the break, and those 15 points earned moved them to third, only two points behind second-placed Manchester City.

Despite the injury to Alexander Isak, Newcastle have found goals from Calum Wilson and Miguel Almiron – who has been playing arguably the best football of his career.

They were most recently in EFL Cup action against Bournemouth, picking up a 1-0 win that saw them go through to the quarter-finals of the Cup.

Leicester’s 3-0 EFL Cup win over MK Dons gave Brendan Rodgers a chance to get a preview of the team he will likely play against Newcastle.

Jamie Vardy and Harvey Barnes both looked sharp; however, the challenge against Newcastle will be much stiffer. The Magpies have lost only once this season and have won their last two away matches. Despite Leicester’s improved form, Newcastle have the advantage in this fixture.

Our betting picks

  • Newcastle win @ 2.23
  • Over 1.5 goals @ 1.25
  • Both teams to score @ 1.65
  • Over 3.5 bookings @ 2.00
  • Over 8.5 corners @ 1.30

Premier League PNG Image - PNG AllAston Villa vs Liverpool

Unai Emery’s return to the Premier League has rejuvenated the Villa team, back-to-back wins against Manchester United and Brighton have helped move Aston Villa from 16th to a much more comfortable 12th place.

They will have a stern test against Liverpool, who have had the chance to rest most of their attackers and have key players returning from injury.

Topsy-turvy best describes the season Liverpool has had, every time it seemed like they were putting together a run of wins, they seem to falter and lose more ground in the title race.

However, they will be grateful for the World Cup break that has helped them get some much-needed rest.

Jurgen Klopp will be aiming for three wins in a row for the first time this season, an indictment of how inconsistent Liverpool have been this campaign.

Liverpool have been surprisingly poor away from home this season, winning only once on the road. However, that sole win came against Tottenham just weeks before the break, this could be a further indication of how much they have turned around their season.

Unai Emery will have to do without Emi Martinez, who is still celebrating Argentina’s World Cup win, but has most of his players available and will hope they pick up where they left off before the break. A draw seems the most likely outcome here.

Our betting picks

  • Draw @ 4.00
  • Over 1.5 goals @ 1.22
  • Both teams to score @ 1.59
  • Under 4.5 bookings @ 1.31
  • Over 8.5 corners @ 1.38

Premier League PNG Image - PNG All Arsenal vs West Ham

The Gunners host West Ham at the Emirates in Arsenal’s first Premier League home game since October. They fared well while away on their travels, picking up wins at Wolves and Chelsea to ensure they will stay top of the league going into Boxing Day.

West Ham will hope the break has helped reset the team after they went on a three-match losing streak that places them only one point above the relegation zone.

Form Guide

Mikel Arteta’s team have had a brilliant start to the season, they have made the Emirates a fortress, winning all six Premier League matches played there and dropping points just once in eight matches.

However, the World Cup break has dealt the team a blow, with Gabriel Jesus out till next year. This means Eddie Nketiah will have to fill the void left by the Brazilian as the Gunners look to hold on to their place at the summit of the table.

Ticket information: Arsenal v West Ham United |

West Ham

Only bottom-placed Wolves have had a worse run in their last five matches than West Ham. The Hammers have lost three matches in a row, a run of games that has caused them to slip from 10th to 16th in a matter of weeks.

The task does not get easy for them as they have aim to pick up their second win away at a team that is yet to drop points at home this season.

The World Cup break was always a worry for Arsenal, who do not have the same depth on the bench as rivals like Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United. How they respond to the absence of Gabriel Jesus will show how much tactical fortitude the team possesses.

The Gunners have traditionally edged the London derby between them and West Ham and have performed much better than the Hammers all season. However, it is unclear how the hiatus has affected both teams, making for what will be a tense evening in North London, regardless, Arsenal have the advantage, especially considering the atmosphere they have created at the Emirates this season.

 Our betting tips

  • Arsenal to win @ 1.56
  • Over 2.5 goals @ 1.78
  • Both teams to score @ 1.85
  • Over  3.5 bookings @ 1.93
  • Over 8.5 corners @ 1.33
