Chelsea reach Nathan Ake agreement as Stamford Bridge return edges closer; City plans laid bare

Manchester City were made to sweat last time out and had to play over an hour of their match against Fulham with only ten men, but Erling Haaland came off the bench to squeeze a stoppage-time penalty under Bernd Leno for the win.

That late victory temporarily moved Manchester City top of the table before Arsenal’s London derby win against Chelsea dropped the Cityzens back to second.

On Saturday the reigning champions will host Brentford at the Etihad for their final match before the World Cup break.

City would rue this temporary pause to proceedings, during the week, a weaker XI knocked Chelsea out of the Carabao Cup to notch their 16th consecutive win at the Etihad. They are only two points behind Arsenal and have a much better goal difference than the Gunners.

Brentford, on the other hand, will welcome the break the World Cup offers,  the Bees have won just one of their last nine matches, and were knocked out of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday by fourth-tier Gillingham.

On the injury front, Kalvin Phillips was in action on Wednesday night after being out since September, while Kyle Walker is yet to recover from his groin injury.

Joao Cancelo has served his one-match suspension against Chelsea in midweek and should be back in the lineup on Saturday.

City are strong favourites to get their 17th consecutive home victory on Saturday, they have an astonishing 4.1 Premier League goals per home game this season and should comfortably get the win against a Brentford team that have not won a Premier League match in nearly a month.

Our Picks

  • Manchester City  to win @ 1.16
  • Over 2.5 goals @ 1.35

Liverpool vs Southampton

Mohamed Salah hits 20th league goal of campaign as Liverpool keep pressure on Manchester City with Brighton win - Eurosport

With just 13 matches this season, Liverpool have already lost twice the number of matches (5) they lost than they did last season (2). This inconsistent start to the season means Liverpool languish in eighth place despite picking up wins against Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur in their five matches. Between those victories, they succumbed to back-to-back losses against Nottingham Forest and Leeds.

Southampton have had it even worse. They let go of Ralph Hasenhuttl as the club’s manager following their humiliating 4-1 loss to Newcastle last weekend and have appointed former Luton Town manager Nathan Jones as his replacement.

Jones will have a Premier League baptism of fire at Anfield as he tries to lift The Saints from their lowly 18th place in the Premier League standings. Southampton came through a penalty shoot-out to knock Sheffield Wednesday out of the Carabao Cup midweek and will need some of that new manager bounce if they are to get anything out of this fixture.

Liverpool have won nine of their last 10 matches against Southampton in the Premier League and have scored at least twice in each of those victories. While Southampton are yet to win at Anfield in their last eight Premier League visits.

However, Liverpool have already lost twice to teams in the relegation zone, losing to  Nottingham Forest, and Leeds United this season. That complacency is what Jurgen Klopp will have to watch out for on Saturday.

Our Picks

  • Liverpool to win @ 1.27
  • Both teams score @ 1.78
  • Liverpool to win either halves @ 1.12

Tottenham vs Leeds

Davinson Sanchez: Tottenham 'disgusted by racist messages' sent to defender | The Independent

When Tottenham play Leeds on Saturday, Anthonio Conte will be aiming to stop a run of losses that could put them out of touch with the top three teams on the table.

Tottenham lost 2-0 to Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup on Wednesday, despite fielding a number of first-team regulars including Harry Kane.

Tottenham have lost three of their last five Premier League matches, a run that has seen them slip into fourth place behind Newcastle and have Manchester United hot on their heels.

The poor run of form is even worse when other competitions are considered, Tottenham have won just two of their last seven games in all tournaments and have also conceded first in those matches, any slip-up against a Leeds team that seem to have found their feet in recent matches could mark an early end to Tottenham’s title dreams.

Leeds are riding on a high on the other hand, after a run of eight successive matches without a win, Leeds put together two straight wins to lift themselves out of the relegation zone. A 2-1 upset of Liverpool was followed by a 4-3 comeback win against Bournemouth that has Jesse March’s team buzzing with belief.

Tottenham have history on their side in this fixture, they have won three of their four Premier League meetings against Leeds since 2020  and have been victorious in the last two matches played against Leeds at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Our Picks

  • Tottenham to win @ 1.63
  • Both teams score @ 1.60
  • Over 2.5 goals @ 1.59
  • Tottenham win or draw @ 1.16

West Ham vs Leicester

The inside story of Wilfred Ndidi's rise : New Frame

West Ham United host Leicester City at the London Stadium on Saturday in the English Premier League with both teams level on points. Not only do the teams have the same number of points after 14 matches, they also share identical records  with 4 wins, 2 draws, and 8 losses. Leicester however, sit a place above West Ham by virtue of a better goal difference.

Coming into the game, both teams have had quite different circumstances. West Ham United lost to Crystal Palace 2-1 despite going ahead thanks to a Said Benrahama goal. Michael Olise’s late goal in the match condemned the Hammers to their second successive loss.

Leicester on the other hand, have turned around a torrid start to the season that had them stuck in the relegation places for weeks. The Foxes have won three of their last five league games, moving them out of the relegation zone and easing some of the pressure on Brendan Rodgers.

Most of Leicester’s attacking impetus is from midfielder James Maddison and Harvey Barnes. Maddison is one of only three English players that have made more than 10 goal contributions in the league, while Harvey Barnes has scored five goals in the league for the Foxes.

Overall, West Ham have had the edge in meetings between the sides. In 30 premier league matches, West Ham have won fourteen times to Leicester’s nine, with seven matches ending in draws.

Leicester are the better side going into this match and have won their last two away matches with victories at Wolves and Everton. West Ham United are looking to avoid getting stuck in a relegation battle with a win that will give them some breathing room before December’s congested fixtures.

Our Picks

  • Both teams to score @ 1.72
  • Leicester win or draw @ 1.73
  • Over 2.5 goals @ 1.91

Wolves vs Arsenal

Arsenal's £45m bargain - How 'incredible' Jesus has transformed Arteta's attack | UK

Wolves will welcome league leaders Arsenal to the Molineux on Saturday looking to slow down the Gunners’ momentum before the World Cup break. The clash will be Steve Davis’ last match in charge before  Julen Lopetegui takes charge after the World Cup.

Even though Arsenal lost in the EFL Cup to Brighton, that was a largely changed side from the XI that will be in action on Saturday. Arteta’s side have now won six and drawn one of their last seven Premier League games, and have the joint-best defensive record in the league.

Wolves have struggled this season and have managed only two wins all season, they can take some consolation in the fact that those matches came at home, but they are winless in four straight Premier League games and have conceded at least three goals in three of their last four Premier League home matches.

Wolves’ fortunes have not been helped by injuries, with Sasa Kalajdzic, Chiquinho, Pedro Neto and Raul Jimenez all unavailable. A sharp contrast to Arsenal who have nearly a full complement of players available with the exception of Takehiro Tomiyasu and Emile Smith Rowe

Any point from the contest will be a huge bonus for Wolves before Lopetegui’s tenure begins but is unlikely with the form the Gunners are in.

Our Picks

  • Arsenal to win @ 1.57
  • Arsenal win or draw @ 1.12
  • Over 8.5 corners @ 1.43
  • Over 2.5 goals @ 1.77

Newcastle vs Chelsea

Almiron clears up confusion around Newcastle future after sparking transfer talk | UK

Chelsea need to stop a slide of four winless games and two straight losses in the Premier League as they head to the North of England to play in-form Newcastle.

The Magpies are up in third on the table after their 4-1 win at Southampton brought their season tally to 27 points from their opening 14 matches. Eddie Howe’s side are now one point ahead of fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur and four clear of fifth-placed Manchester United and look like genuine top-four contenders.

Chelsea are winless in the Premier League since October 16th and were knocked out of the EFL Cup on Wednesday evening, after a 2-0 loss to Manchester City. However, it is not all bad news for the Blues, they have reached the knockout round of the Champions League, with Borussia Dortmund their next opponents.

Graham Potter’s team have been tepid in the Premier League lately. They have accumulated only 2 points from their last four matches and have slipped down to seventh on the log, six points behind Saturday’s opponents Newcastle.

Chelsea have historically done well at St James Park, they have won each of their last four Premier League games at Newcastle, and won 3-0 there as recently as October 2021, but Saturday’s fixture presents an entirely new challenge from last time. Newcastle recruited excellently in the off season and are now not just a good attacking side, but have also been solid at the back. They have the joint-best defense in the League and are one of only three teams that have lost only once in the Premier League this season.

For the first time in a while, Newcastle will be favourites in this encounter, especially on the back of how Chelsea have played lately. However, Chelsea have enough talent in their side to be a threat.

Our picks

  • Both teams score @ 1.70
  • Over 2.5 goals @ 1.92

Italian Serie A logo and symbol, meaning, history, PNG, brandNapoli vs Udinese

Victor Osimhen transfer plans up in smoke for Erik ten Hag as Fabrizio Romano spills beans on why striker doesn't fancy Man Utd

As Napoli host Udinese on Saturday, they get an opportunity to further solidify their position at the top of the Serie A  table.

On Tuesday they won their 10th Serie A match in a row with victory over Empoli, regardless of the result against Udinese, Spalletti’s team are assured of remaining top of the league heading into the new year and are now runaway favourites to win their first Scudetto since the 1989-1990 season.

Alongside PSG, Napoli are the only other undefeated team in Europe’s top five leagues. A victory over Udinese is crucial considering the calibre of fixtures they will play when Serie A action returns in early January when they will take on Inter Milan and Juventus within 11 days.

Their opponents Udinese head to the Maradona on a seven-match winless run with their last Serie A win coming early in October. Last time out, they were held to a 1-1 draw by Spezia.

Despite being without a Serie A win in six matches, Udinese have been defensively solid, with five draws from those six matches and have the sixth-best away record in the league with a goal conceded rate of only one per game.

Georgian winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia should be back in the XI for Napoli, his eight goals and 10 assists will add firepower to the Napoli team.

Udinese are a potential banana peel for Napoli as they aim for their ninth straight home win in all competitions, but they have shown they can also win ugly despite possessing the best attack in the league. Udinese have a solid defensive structure that will not be breached many times. Expect a slim Napoli win.

Our Picks

  • Napoli to win @ 1.50
  • Under 2.5 goals @ 2.40

Watch Sadio Mane score on Bundesliga debut as Bayern Munich forget about Lewandowski exit in 6-1 mauling of Frankfurt | The Sun

Bayern have wrestled the Bundesliga leadership from Union Berlin and will look to extend their lead at the top when they play Schalke 04 on Saturday. They will however remain top of the league regardless of the result after opening up a four-point lead over Union.

For bottom-placed Schalke, the task is to get the points that could see them move up a few places on the table. They stopped their seven-match losing streak with a 1-0 win over Mainz midweek but remained bottom of the table after VfL Bochum also won their midweek fixture.

Bayern have won their last nine games in all competitions and should be confident of extending that run to 10 after turning around a poor start to the season.

The match pits the best attack in the league against the second-worst defense in the league and should be a comfortable win for Bayern against a team that have only won twice this season. The danger for the Bavarians would be playing within themselves with eyes on the World Cup.

Our Picks

  • Bayern to win @ 1.17
  • Over 3.5 goals @ 1.67

Werder Bremen vs RB Leipzig

RB Leipzig Soccer - RB Leipzig News, Scores, Stats, Rumors & More | ESPN

Werder Bremen will attempt to stop the RB Leipzig train when they welcome them to the Weserstadion on Saturday.

Leipzig are on a run of 12 unbeaten matches and look set to continue the streak as they picked up a 3-1 victory over Freiburg last time out. Werder Bremen on the other hand, come off a humiliating 6-1 defeat to league leaders Bayern Munich on Tuesday. That loss stopped a run of two successive wins after defeating Hertha Berlin and FC Schalke in their previous matches.

RB Leipzig have been dominant in the history of this fixture,  winning nine of their previous 13 matches., while Werder Bremen have won only three of those matches, with one match ending in a draw.

Leipzig are on a five-game winning run against Werder Bremen, stretching back to a 2-1 loss in May 2019

While Leipzig are the in-form team coming into this fixture, Bremen have also been decent, they have won three of their last four home games, scoring eight goals and conceding four since the start of October.

However, Leipzig are unbeaten since September and will be looking to keep that streak going on Saturday.

Our Picks

  • Leipzig win or draw @ 1.29
  • Leipzig win @ 1.94
  • Over 2.5 goals @ 1.56

Bayer Leverkusen vs VfB Stuttgart

Florian Wirtz: Bayer Leverkusen's new Bundesliga sensation set to face Bayern

Bayer Leverkusen are looking for their first 3-match winning streak of the season when they host Stuttgart on Saturday.

Xabi Alonso’s men followed a 5-0 win over Union Berlin with a 2-1 victory over Koln midweek. Stuttgart are only one point behind Leverkusen and will leapfrog Leverkusen with a win.

Both teams have players unavailable due to suspension; Leverkusen will be without Robert Andrich while Stuttgart will be missing Konstantinos Mavropanos after the former Arsenal defender received his fifth yellow card of the season in the win against Hertha on Tuesday.

Leverkusen and Stuttgart have met 44 times previously with Leverkusen winning 29 of their previous matchups, while Stuttgart have won just nine times with six draws between the two teams.

Leverkusen are undefeated in their last  seven matches against Stuttgart and have won the last three games in this fixture, with Stuttgart failing to keep a clean sheet in their last seven games in this fixture

Bayer Leverkusen look poised to get their third straight win to put some distance between them and the relegation zone.

Our picks

  • Leverkusen win @ 1.73
  • Leverkusen win either halves @ 1.38
