10 NFL Betting Tips For Week 8

Last week in the NFL, there were 3 major upsets – upsets that cost us the chance of hitting a perfect 10/10 in our predictions. Tom Brady & the Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost 21-3 to the Panthers and their 3rd string QB, Phillip Walker. Then, the New England Patriots lost to the Chicago Bears for only the 2nd time in 35 years. And finally, Aaron Rodgers & the Packers lost 23-21 to a dysfunctional Washington Commanders team – his third loss in a row. We begin this weekend’s preview with a look at his team and their trip to Buffalo.

Note: The figures in the brackets represent each team’s win-loss-tie record.

EXTRA POINT BETS

All bets come with some risks especially in the NFL, but these Extra Point Bets are some of the easy ones to hit.

Buffalo Bills (5-1) v Green Bay Packers (3-4)

Buffalo Bills Vs. Green Bay Packers: Observations For The Bills Herd | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors | Bleacher Report

If there’s been one team in the NFL that has lived up to its pre-season hype, it’s the Buffalo Bills. They’ve won 5 of their 6 games this season with their only loss coming against Miami Dolphins – a game that saw the temperature rise to as high as 90 degrees with some players having to get treatment for heat related cramps. Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen is the MVP front runner and ranks #2 on Passing Touchdowns (17) only to Patrick Mahomes (20). In week 1, he defeated the Super Bowl Champs (LA Rams), in Week 4 he defeated former MVP Lamar Jackson & the Ravens and just before the Bye-Week, he defeated Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City. A victory against the reigning back-to-back league MVP, Aaron Rodgers would almost guarantee him his first MVP title and the Bills are heavy favourites to do just that.  Not only are the Bills great on offense, but they’re also equally great in defense. Led by Super Bowl 50 MVP Von Miller’s 6.0 sacks (tied for 5th in the NFL), the Bills’ defense leads the league in both scoring and total defense.

The Packers’ season cannot be any further from the Bills’. Alongside the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, they have been the most underwhelming team in the league and, at 3-4, are in real danger of missing the playoffs. They’re on a 3-game losing streak and have been outscored in the 2nd half of all 3 games. For the first time since he came into the NFL, Aaron Rodgers is a 10-point underdog as concerns about a disjointed locker room continue to grow. The Green Bay Packers are 0-6 in games in Buffalo in franchise history and this run should stretch to 0-7.

Prediction: Buffalo Bills to win @1.20

Houston Texans (1-4-1) v Tennessee Titans (4-2)

Tennessee Titans stunned by Houston Texans: How it happened

This AFC South game is one that is a bit tough to call on the surface. After starting the season with 2 losses, the Titans have won 4 straight games and lead this division. However, the quality of their wins have been a tad questionable. Two of their victories have come against the Colts (who have decided to bench starting QB Matt Ryan given his poor performances) while one of the other two victories came against one of the most underwhelming QBs this season, Carson Wentz. Regardless, they face a Texans team that has won just once this season – a drab 13-6 victory over the Jaguars – and I expect them to stretch their winning streak to 5. Titans’ QB Ryan Tannehill is nursing an ankle injury which could make them lean even further on their Running game. Over the last 3 games, Tannehill has thrown for just 450-yards which is way below the league average. The Titans have a 100% scoring rate in the Red Zone, a joint league high, and I expect them to dominate this game.

Prediction: Tennessee Titans to win @1.70 and Houston Texans to score under 19.5 points @1.87

Philadelphia Eagles (6-0) v Pittsburgh Steelers (2-5)

Steelers vs. Eagles, Preseason: 2nd quarter live in-game update - Behind the Steel Curtain

The Eagles are the only unbeaten team in the NFL are heavy favourites to not only get the #1 seed in the NFC Conference but reach the Super Bowl for the 2nd time in 5 years. On Wednesday, they pulled off a blockbuster trade by adding Pro Bowl DE Robert Quinn to their roster. Quinn had a career-high 18.5 sacks last season – the 4th time recording double digit sacks in his career – which earned him his 3rd Pro Bowl selection. In addition, the Eagles are coming off a Bye-Week and this extra week of rest can only be a positive for them. The Steelers are a sound defensive team but their struggles on offense continue to fail them. After holding the Dolphins to 16pts last weekend, they needed the offense to seal the deal for them but Rookie QB, Kenny Pickett just couldn’t get the job done with his 3 interceptions.

Prediction: Philadelphia Eagles to win @1.20

 Dallas Cowboys (5-2) v Chicago Bears (3-4)

How to watch Dallas Cowboys vs. Chicago Bears - channel, stream, and more

The Chicago Bears stunned everyone by picking up a victory against the Patriots on Monday. It wasn’t just a win, it was a total beatdown on offense, defense, and special teams. The Patriots clearly underestimated them, and they made them pay. On Sunday, they face the Dallas Cowboys who won’t make the silly mistake the Patriots did. The Dallas Cowboys have the best defense front-7 in the NFL and 2nd overall defense and the Bears have the worst Offensive Line. It’s a terrible matchup for the visitors and the Cowboys are well positioned to pick up their 6th win of the season.

Prediction: Dallas Cowboys to win @1.21 and Chicago Bears to score under 15.5pts @2.03

Detroit Lions (1-5) v Miami Dolphins (4-3)

Lions vs. Dolphins: What Just Happened - Pride Of Detroit

The Miami Dolphins did not look too convincing in their 16-10 win against the Steelers. Tua Tagovailoa was extremely lucky not to throw 4 interceptions as the Steelers defenders kept dropping them. But he can be excused as being a bit rusty following his 3-week absence due to a concussion. The Dolphins and their speedy Wide Receivers face a historically bad Lions defense. The Lions defense has given up 24 Touchdowns – the worst in the league despite having a Bye-Week. They’ve also given up 194 points, the 2nd worst in the league behind the Saints. This has the making of a high scoring game.

Prediction: Over 5.5 Total Touchdowns @1.65

 RED ZONE BETS

The Redzone Bets are our dangerous bets. While they’re risky, always remember, “fortune favours the brave”.

Atlanta Falcons (3-4) v Carolina Panthers (2-5)

Carolina Panthers vs. Atlanta Falcons: Final score and game recap

That the winner of this game will top the NFC South reflects how poor the division is. For further context, it is the only division in the NFL where all 4 teams have negative Points Differentials as well as losing records. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ 3-game losing streak – which includes Thursday night’s home loss to the Ravens – has thrown this division wide open. The Panthers are coming off their best performance of the season, a 21-3 upset of Tom Brady and the Buccaneers while Falcons were hammered 35-17 when they visited Cincinnati. Panthers interim coach Steve Wilks made it a point to run the ball when he took over the team (ranked last in offense) two weeks ago. The Falcons have completed just 21 passes in their last 2 games and also prefer to run the ball even though this means the underutilization of Kyle Pitts, the #4 pick of last year’s draft. With both teams heavily relying on their run game, it feels logical to bet the under on total points.

Prediction: Under 42.5 Total Points @1.80

LA Rams (3-3) v San Francisco 49ers (3-4)

Los Angeles Rams vs San Francisco 49ers: Start Time and Channel | Marca

The LA Rams have looked like a shell of themselves this season. The Super Bowl champions are 28th on Total Touchdowns and are in danger of not making the playoffs if they don’t turn their season around. A notable cause for the Rams’ slight decline this season is their defense which has just 12 sacks – tied for 22nd in the league – despite having some of the best defenders in the league in Bobby Wagner & Aaron Donald. The Rams’ defense has also given up a league-high 9.7 Yards After Catch per Reception which is worrying as they face new 49ers signing, Christian McCaffrey who has 327 Yards After Catch this season – 2nd in the league. The 49ers have some worries of their own but can find some comfort in the fact that their QB Jimmy Garoppolo has won all 7 games he’s played against the Rams as a starter for the San Francisco team. While the 49ers look likely to win @1.88, there is better value in betting on the over/under on Touchdowns.

Prediction: Over 4.5 Total Touchdowns @1.85

 Cleveland Browns (2-5) v Cincinnati Bengals (4-3)

Browns vs. Bengals Final Score: Cleveland's offense comes alive with 35-30 victory - Dawgs By Nature

After a shaky start to the season, the Bengals seemed to find a little bit of form and won two straight games. But their chances of winning the AFC North for the second year in a row took a major hit when it was announced that Ja’Marr Chase, their star Wide Receiver, would be out for 4-6 weeks with a hip injury. Chase has 6 Touchdowns, 47 Receptions, and 605 yards this season. The 2021 Offensive Rookie of the Year has 19 Touchdowns since he came into the league last season, the 2nd most by any player and will be a big miss. In his absence, Tyler Boyd & Tee Higgins will have to step up and they’re capable of that. While the absence of Ja’Marr Chase is undoubtedly a big blow to their offense, the Bengals’ defense has been immense and can be leaned on. This season, they are yet to give up an offensive touchdown in the 2nd Half – the only time since 1950 a team has gone through the first 7 games without doing so. They’ve given up just 17.8PPG since Week 3 and I expect them to dominate against this Browns team who are on a 4 game losing streak.

Prediction: Totals Cleveland Browns Points – Under 20.5 @1.90

Seattle Seahawks (4-3) v New York Giants (6-1)

Seahawks gameplan against New York Giants is simple

Last weekend, we picked the New York Giants to win in our Upset of the Week and they delivered. Their 2.37 odds were too enticing to pass up and we were right. In the 23-17 win over the Jaguars, QB Daniel Jones completed 0 passes in the 4th Quarter but somehow, they found a way to win, and he was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week – which he earned the hard way. The Giants are a patient side who are willing to stretch out games to minimise mistakes and this strategy has worked for them. However, they face the Seahawks who, to everyone’s surprise, are topping the NFC West and look very convincing doing so. Pete Carroll has done a fantastic job coaching this team and deserves all the credit he’s getting. Their Pass Block win rate this season is at 65% – the 5th best in the NFL while Geno Smith has a Total QBR of 66.8 (4th in the NFL). While the Seahawks are very impressive on offense and score 26.1PPG (5th best in the league), they give up 26.6PPG (5th worst in the league). In comparison, the Giants are giving up 18.6PPG, which ranks them as the 5th best in the league. It’s hard to call this but one thing is certain, the Giants will force the Seahawks to play on their terms by making this gritty and close.

Prediction: Total Touchdowns Under 4.5 @2.20

UPSET OF THE WEEK

New York Jets (5-2) v New England Patriots (3-4)

Patriots vs. Jets: Live updates, score, news, game details - Pats Pulpit

The Jets have lost 12 straight games to the Patriots, sweeping the season series for the past 6 years. Ordinarily, this should make this a straightforward game but New England’s 33-14 loss to the Bears on Monday was inexcusable and has understandably raised questions about the 6-time Super Bowl winning Head Coach. Bill Belichick’s decision to alternate two Quarterbacks reeked of indecisiveness and backfired in spectacular fashion leaving both Mac Jones & Bailey Zappe with eggs on their faces. While Mac Jones was reaffirmed as the starter on Thursday, there has been some damage done to his confidence and ego and it’ll be interesting to see how he bounces back especially when you consider he won’t be without David Andrews, the starting Center. The Jets on the other hand are having a great season. They’ve won 4 games in a row including a 40-17 beatdown of the Dolphins 3 weeks ago. The loss of Rookie Running Back Breece Hall will be a big blow but, right now, they are a better team and though the Patriots are favoured to win this, I see them breaking the streak.

Prediction: New York Jets to win @2.17
