Champions League Tuesday Midweek Betting Tips

RB Salzburg v Chelsea

Reverse Fixture Scoreline: Chelsea 1 – 1 RB Salzburg

The Blues could qualify for the Round of 16 if they leave Austria with all 3 points on Tuesday. They shook off a Matchday 1 loss to Dinamo Zagreb & Matchday 2 draw in the reverse fixture to RB Salzburg with a double win over AC Milan to the surprise of many.

Graham Potter’s side have remained unbeaten since he took over and Kepa remains the top reason for that. The Spaniard has kept 5 clean sheets in 9 appearances this season and had saved 23 consecutive shots in all competitions without conceding before Casemiro’s 94th minute header earned Man Utd a late draw – the 1st goal Kepa had conceded in 627 minutes of play.

RB Salzburg have done well to find themselves in 2nd position, just a point behind group leaders, Chelsea. Qualification for the Round of 16 could come down to the final matchday against AC Milan. They’re currently unbeaten in the Champions League but their lack of productivity in front of goal has left them with 3 draws and just 1 win in 4 games. Noah Okafor has scored 3 of the team’s 4 goals and while his importance to the attack keeps growing, there is a slight concern that it is overdependent on him.

Salzburg’s confidence will be high ahead of Chelsea’s visit having gone unbeaten at home in the Champions League since December 2020.In that period, AC Milan, Sevilla, Bayern Munich and Lille are some of the teams that have failed to pick up a win at the Red Bull Arena. However, Salzburg are yet to get a win against an English opposition in 7 attempts which could make things interesting.

RB Salzburg Expected Lineup: Kohn; Dedic, Solet, Pavlovic, Wober; Kjaergaard, Gourna-Douath, Seiwald; Sucic; Okafor, Sesko. (4-3-1-2)

Chelsea Expected Lineup: Kepa; Azpilicueta, Chalobah, Silva, Chilwell; Gallagher, Jorginho, Loftus-Cheek; Mount, Havertz, Sterling (4-3-3)

Dinamo Zagreb v AC Milan

Reverse Fixture Scoreline: AC Milan 3 – 1 Dinamo Zagreb

Two consecutive losses to Chelsea have left AC Milan in 3rd position in Group E and in real danger of not qualifying for the Round of 16.

The reigning Italian champions started the Champions League campaign with a win and a draw to top Group E before running into Graham Potter & his men. This trip to Croatia is a must win game for the Rossoneri against a Dinamo Zagreb side level on points with them.

History favours AC Milan here: they’ve won all 5 games they played against Dinamo Zagreb including the earlier meeting in Milan. Although Dinamo Zagreb have lost just one of their last 5 Champions League games at home, AC Milan are favourites to win this.

Dinamo Zagreb Expected Lineup: Livakovic; Ristovski, Peric, Sutalo; Misic; Ademi, Ljubicic; Spikic, Ivanusec; Orsic, Petkovic (4-2-3-1)

AC Milan Expected Lineup: Tatarusanu; Kalulu, Gabbia, Kjaer, Hernandez; Tonali, Bennacer; Messias, De Ketelaere, Leao; Giroud. (4-2-3-1)

Sevilla v Copenhagen

Reverse Fixture Scoreline: Copenhagen 0 – 0 Sevilla

Both sides come into Matchday 5 with identical records; 2 wins, 2 draws & 2 points apiece. They’re only separated by their Goal Difference with Sevilla having -7 while Copenhagen has -8.

With hopes of a Round of 16 spot fading rapidly for both teams, anything other than a win for one side will mean neither team qualifies for the next round. Sevilla are heavy favourites as Copenhagen have failed to win any of their 6 games against Spanish opposition in the Champions League (D2 L3). Their only goal in those 6 games came in a 1-1 draw against Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona back in November 2010.

They earned a draw against a Pep Guardiola side once again in Matchday 4 after drawing 0-0 with a ten-man Manchester City and will be full of confidence heading to Spain.

Sevilla Expected Lineup: Bounou; Montiel, Gudelj, Marcao, Telles; Rakitic, Jordan; Navas, Isco, Lamela; Mir. (4-2-3-1)

Copenhagen Expected Lineup: Grabara; Kristensen, Khocholava, Lund, Kristiansen; Lerager, Claesson, Johannesson; Daramy, Haraldsson, Bardghji.  (4-3-3)

Benfica v Juventus

Reverse Fixture Scoreline: Juventus 1 – 2 Benfica

Benfica have always been a side capable of punishing teams that underestimate them. They showed it last season by sending Barcelona to the Europa League and their 2-1 win in Turin on Matchday 2 further proved that. Successive 1-1 draws with PSG showed just how tactically sound the Portuguese side are and they welcome Juventus knowing a win will confirm their progress to the next round and relegate the Old Lady to the Europa League. A win over FC Porto on Friday extended their unbeaten run to 19 games in all competitions and Roger Schmidt’s men will rightly fancy themselves against a Juventus side that lost 2-0 to Maccabi Haifa on Matchday 4.

Benfica Expected Lineup: Vlachodimos; Bah, Silva, Otamendi, Grimaldo; Fernandez, Luis; Mario, Rafa, Neres; Ramos. (4-2-3-1)

Juventus Expected Lineup: Szczęsny; Danilo, Bonucci, Rugani; Cuadrado, McKennie, Locatelli, Rabiot, Kostic; Milik, Vlahovic. (3-5-2)

PSG v Maccabi Haifa

Reverse Fixture Scoreline: Maccabi Haifa 1 – 3 PSG

PSG have lost just once in 32 Champions League games at Parc des Princes – a 2-1 defeat to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United in October 2020. They’ve won 25 of those games and drawn just 6, scoring 86 times; an average of 2.7 goals per game. Maccabi Haifa are bottom of the group with little hope of making the Round of 16 but a chance to finish 3rd and play in the Europa League could see them put up an admirable fight. Getting anything more than a consolation goal in France seems like a big ask and PSG should comfortably secure the win.

PSG Expected Lineup: Donnarumma; Mukiele, Marquinhos, Ramos; Hakimi, Vitinha, Ruiz, Bernat; Messi; Mbappe, Neymar

Maccabi Haifa Expected Lineup: Cohen; Sundgren, Batubinsika, Goldberg, Cornud; Mohamed, Lavi; Atzili, Chery, David; Pierrot

Dortmund v Man City

Reverse Fixture Scoreline: Man City 2 – 1 Dortmund

Dortmund may have lost when both sides met on Matchday 2 but they made it tough for the reigning Premier League champions. They led till the 80th min through Jude Bellingham’s goal before two stunners from John Stones and Erling Haaland secured the win for Pep Guardiola.

Man City are through to the Round of 16 while Dortmund need a draw to confirm theirs but the return of Erling Haaland to the Signal Iduna Park will be a problem. The visitors have won their last three Champions League games against Borussia Dortmund by the same scoreline; 2-1. No team has ever beaten another team by the same score in four consecutive games in Champions League history (Bayern Munich beat Arsenal 5-1 three in a row between 2015 and 2017) & betting on a 2-1 win for Man City could be worth the risk.

Jude Bellingham joined Kylian Mbappe & Erling Haaland as the only teenagers to score in 4 consecutive Champions League games. The English midfielders was a handful in the last meeting between these two sides and the chance to go head to head with his very good friend should make this game more interesting.

Dortmund Expected Lineup: Kobel; Wolf, Sule, Hummels, Guerreiro; Can, Bellingham; Adeyemi, Brandt, Malen; Moukoko

Man City Expected Lineup: Ederson; Akanji, Dias, Ake, Cancelo; Rodri, Gundogan; Silva, De Bruyne, Foden; Haaland

Celtic v Shakhtar Donetsk

Reverse Fixture Scoreline: Shakhtar Donetsk 1 – 1 Celtic

The Scottish giants have won both home games against Shakhtar Donetsk in their history but those came back in the 2000s. This is a different era, though, and with just 1pt from 4 games, Celtic are rock bottom of Group F and their shot at making the Round of 16 is gone. With a slim chance of making the Europa League the only thing left to play for, Celtic will be hoping history favours them on Tuesday. There has never been an away win in the 5 meetings between these 2 sides in Champions League history with the home side winning 4 times and the only draw being the Matchday 2 stalemate weeks ago.

Celtic Expected Lineup: Hart; Juranovic, Carter-Vickers, Jenz, Taylor; O’Riley, Mooy, Hatate; Haksabanovic, Abada, Furuhashi

Shakhtar Donetsk Expected Lineup: Trubin; Taylor, Bondar, Kryvtsov, Mykhaylichenko; Stepanenko; Zubkov, Bondarenko, Sudakov, Mudryk; Traore

RB Leipzig v Real Madrid

Reverse Fixture Scoreline: Real Madrid 2 – 0 RB Leipzig

An unbeaten Real Madrid side travels to Germany having already qualified for the Round of 16. Los Blancos are aware that a draw would be enough to win them the group but they’ll be going for the win.

After a shaky start to their season, RB Leipzig are on a 7-game unbeaten run that includes back to back wins against Celtic which moved them to 2nd in the group. Ahead of this crucial tie, Leipzig will be without Lukas Klostermann, Marcel Halstenberg, Konrad Laimer and Peter Gulacsi through injury while Timo Werner could be risked though not fully fit. For the visitors, they’ll be without Benzema as well as Luka Modric and Valverde, both of whom were left out of the matchday squad. Real Madrid have lost just 1 of their last 8 away UEFA Champions League matches in Germany (W5 D2) and will be looking to extend this record.

RB Leipzig Expected Lineup: Blaswich; Simakan, Orban, Gvardiol, Raum; Haidara, Schlager; Szoboszlai, Nkunku, Werner; A Silva

Real Madrid Expected Lineup: Courtois; Carvajal, Militao, Rudiger, Alaba; Camavinga, Tchouameni, Kroos; Asensio, Rodrygo, Vinicius
