Midweek betting preview

As the Qatar 2022 World Cup draws nearer, the games are coming in thick and fast as domestic leagues seek to get in as many matches as possible before the Mundial. While this means extra exertion for the players, it is great news for fans and punters alike, providing mid-week entertainment and an exciting opportunity to win big from these matches.

Here is a preview and betting tips for some of the matches.

Brentford vs Chelsea

Brentford 0-1 Chelsea, Premier League: Post-match reaction, ratings - We Ain't Got No History

The Graham Potter Chelsea era has officially found its feet, the Blues have not lost a game since August when they succumbed to Southampton and have now won four consecutive games. On Wednesday they will be looking to make it a 100% run of matches in October when they make the short trip to face Brentford in West London. Chelsea have moved into 4th place on the log and could move to within 1 point of 3rd-placed Tottenham if they win their game in hand.

Brentford on their part ended a run of three games without a win when they secured a 2-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion last Friday. That victory left the Bees in ninth place, only a point behind Brighton in seventh.

This will be no stroll in the park for Chelsea, the Bees have lost just once at home this season and sit 5th on the table for home game, level with Chelsea with 10 points at home in the EPL this season.

Chelsea showed their defensive frailties against Aston Villa and needed Kepa to be at his best to leave Villa Park with a clean sheet. The extra spiciness of this being a West London derby will make this a difficult evening for the Blues, however, they should be able to see it through.

Our Prediction: Chelsea win 2-1

Our Betting Picks

Chelsea wins @ 1.80

Both teams to score @ 1.72

Under 3.5 goals @ 1.40

Liverpool vs West Ham

Liverpool vs West Ham LIVE stream: Jurgen Klopp could still be on touchline as Reds look to follow up Man City win - kick-off time, team news and how to follow

Liverpool appear to finally be out of the woods, following up a 7-1 mauling of Rangers with a 1-0 win at Anfield to hand Manchester City their first loss of the season. West Ham on the other hand, only managed a 1-1 draw with Southampton on Sunday.

David Moyes will have to hope for some complacency on Liverpool’s side following their enthralling win over City if his side is going to get a victory against a team that they have historically struggled against.

In the last five matches between the teams in the league, Liverpool have lost to West Ham just once and have won 32 of the 52 Premier League matches between them.

Moyes will have to find a way to contain a revitalized Mo Salah, the Egyptian forward’s return to form has also been noted by Fantasy Premier League players who have already made Salah the most-transferred in player this match week with 277,000 players adding him to their team.

Our Prediction: Liverpool win 3-0

Our Betting Picks

Liverpool wins @ 1.45

Over 2.5 goals @ 1.55

Home team to win either half @ 1.23

Newcastle vs Everton

Newcastle vs Everton: Newcastle spoil Lampard's Everton league debut to move out of relegation zone | Marca

These two teams will head into this match looking to do better than last time. Everton lost to Tottenham despite creating lots of chances to get something out of the fixture, while Newcastle left Old Trafford with a draw even though they could have gotten all three points.

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle are currently in sixth place on the premier league table, while Frank Lampard’s Everton are in fourteenth place, five points behind the Magpies in sixth.

Newcastle have been a good defensive side this season, with only 9 goals conceded so far this season, they have the stingiest defense and have only lost once this season.

Everton have conceded only two more goals than Newcastle, however, they have scored just eight goals all season, winning just twice in ten games.

Newcastle will be confident of getting the better of Everton at St. James Park, they are yet to lose a match at home and have scored 11 goals, conceding only 5 times.

Also, Everton’s away form has been abysmal; they have only won once away from home, picking up just 5 points in 5 away matches.

Both teams will miss having their key strikers at full strength for this encounter, Eddie Howe recently shared that Alexander Isak will not be available for Newcastle till after the World Cup, while for Everton, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is back but unlikely to start as he’s still working his way back to full fitness.

Our Prediction: Newcastle win 2-0

Our Betting Picks

Newcastle wins @ 1.65

Match ends in a draw @ 4.00

Under 2.5 goals @ 1.92

Manchester United vs Tottenham

Ronaldo drops out: predicted Man United line-up vs Tottenham

Tottenham put the Derby day loss to Arsenal behind them to put together a streak of three wins and are only behind second-place Manchester City on goal difference.

They will visit fifth-place Manchester United in a contest that has served up a classic over the years.

Manchester United were inches away from taking all three points against Newcastle last time out but had to settle for a goalless draw in the end.

Tottenham were 2-0 victors over Everton, even though they had to work to earn all three points with Everton pushing them hard for an equaliser before Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s goal settled the match as a contest.

Manchester United could have Anthony Martial, Scott McTominay and Christian Eriksen back in the team after the trio missed Newcastle’s visit while Spurs will have to do without Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski for the trip.

Despite Tottenham sitting higher on the log than Manchester United, Antonio Conte’s conservative tactics and Manchester United’s superiority in recent meetings between the two teams should skew this contest in the Red Devil’s favour.

Manchester United have won their last three matches against Tottenham Hotspur in all competitions and haven’t lost in 12 of their last 13 Premier League home games.

Our Prediction: Manchester United win 3-1

Our Betting Picks

Manchester United to win/draw @ 1.44

Both teams score @ 1.57

Over 2.5 goals @ 1.72

 Bournemouth vs Southampton

Bournemouth vs Southampton: Last 5 Results, Head to Head and Live Stream

After getting pummeled 9-0 by Liverpool, Bournemouth have put together a run of six unbeaten matches and will look to extend that streak to seven when they host a tepid Southampton to the Vitality Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Cherries were pegged back twice by Fulham twice at Craven Cottage to earn one point from their visit to London, while the Saints also could only get one point as their clash with West Ham ended in a  1-1 stalemate.

Southampton have played poorly away from home this season, winning away only at Leicester. The Saints will also be missing one of their key defensive pieces with Armel Bella-Kotchap unavailable for the trip to Bournemouth after dislocating his shoulder against West Ham.

Bournemouth’s extra day of rest along with the confidence Dominic Solanke gained from his goal and assist against Fulham should give the Cherries the edge in this contest.

Gary O’Neil’s side look poised to continue their unbeaten run against an out-of-sorts Southampton team.

Our Prediction: Bournemouth win 2-1

Our Betting Picks

Bournemouth wins @ 2.75

Bournemouth to win/draw @ 1.45

Under 2.5 goals scored  @ 1.75

Elche vs Real Madrid

Karim Benzema: Ballon d'Or success will cap remarkable season for Real Madrid star | CNN

Real Madrid could go 6 points clear with a victory over Elche on Wednesday. Barcelona are not in action till Thursday and Los Blancos will welcome the chance to consolidate their position at the top.

Elche currently sit bottom of the La Liga following a winless start to the season but have shown signs of improvement lately.

Real Madrid’s fortunes have been the opposite. The defending La Liga champions are unbeaten in their last 18 competitive fixtures and arrive with newly crowned Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema who rediscovered his goal-scoring touch against Barcelona after enduring a 5-game goal drought.

Given the difference in turn between these two teams, Carlos Ancelotti will be confident his team can get the victory against the La Liga’s worst defense and tack on another three points, keeping them on track for yet another La Liga title win.

Our Prediction: Real Madrid win 4-1

Our Betting Picks

Real Madrid win @ 1.30

Over 3.5 goals @ 2.25

Real Madrid half time/full time win @ 1.78

Augsburg vs Bayern Munich

Six observations from Bayern Munich's embarrassing 1-0 loss to Augsburg - Bavarian Football Works

Domestically, Bayern Munich have not started the Bundesliga in usual fashion, but a 5-0 thrashing of Freiburg over the weekend has seen them climb to second place. Their win over Viktoria Plzen last week also means that they’ve comfortably qualified for the second round of the Champions League with a couple of games to spare.

This midweek, Julian Nagelsmann will turn his attention to the DFB-Pokal as his side visit Augsburg on Wednesday evening.

Bayern are the competition’s most successful team having won it a record 20 times.  Augsburg, on the other hand, are yet to reach the final with their best-ever performance being a semi-final place in the 2009-10 season.

Bayern will be without key players like Thomas Muller, Manuel Neuer and Lucas Hernandez but should still have enough strength in depth to see themselves through this encounter against a team 10 places below them.

Our Prediction: Bayern win 4-0

Our Betting Picks

Bayern wins @ 1.20

Over 3.5 goals @ 1.75

Over 8.5 corners @ 1.40

Hannover 96 vs Borussia Dortmund

Hannover 96 vs. Borussia Dortmund: Live stream info and how to watch DFB-Pokal match in Canada | DAZN News Canada

Dortmund will be looking to avoid an upset when they visit second division side, Hannover in the DFB-Pokal. Dortmund’s wariness will be justified given their atrocious form recently.

Dortmund need a bounce back after losing to Bundesliga leaders Union Berlin over the weekend. They are aware Hannover’s only ever DFB-Pokal triumph came as a second-tier side in the 1991-92 season. While that seems unlikely this time around, they will be wise to not underestimate their hosts.

This clash gives Edin Terzic the chance to steer the team in the right direction after they slipped to eighth place following the loss to Union. While he is likely to rest first-team regulars like Salih Özcan and Jude Bellingham, Marco Reus and Anthony Modeste could both feature after missing Sunday’s match.

It is a tricky prospect for Dortmund, but they should be able to count on the experience of Marco Reus leading the line.

Our Prediction: Dortmund win 2-1

Our Betting Picks

Dortmund wins @ 1.38

Over 2.5 goals @ 1.45

Dortmund win/draw & over 1.5 goals @1.22
