Football weekend preview

Sunday brings with it some of the biggest clashes in world football. Real Madrid host Barcelona while Liverpool host Man City in an attempt to climb back up the table by taking points off their biggest rivals before the season started.

Read on for the match and betting previews below!

Real Madrid vs Barcelona

Preview: Real Madrid vs. Barcelona - prediction, team news, lineups - Sports Mole

First off, let’s get one thing straight. No matter how many superstars leave, even superstars of the calibre of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez, the El Clasico is still the biggest club game in world football, between the two biggest teams in the world.

Tomorrow, the headlines will be dominated by the Benzema-Lewandowski matchup. Both strikers are heads and shoulders ahead of the other twenty players on the pitch and their teammates will look to them to provide inspiration and goals.

Benzema has endured a difficult spell of late, shown by 5 games for Real Madrid without a goal/assist and will be looking to bounce back at home ahead of his expected Balon d’Or win on Monday. Lewandowski, on the other hand, is in the form of his life with 5 goals in his last 5 Barcelona appearances.

The supporting cast will matter here too. Primed to back up Benzema is the irrepressible Vinicius Junior, who has come on in leaps and bounds in just two years and is seen by many as the best winger in the world. Cules will hope Raphinha and Dembele can replicate the Brazilian’s impact tomorrow.

Prediction: Form counts for little in games between rivals who despise themselves as much as these two do, but both teams are practically nailed-on odds to score. Goals are also certain here. The last five competitive El Clasicos have all seen a minimum of 3 goals.

Our picks: Both teams to score @ 1.42. Over 2.5 goals @ 1.52. Both teams to score 2+ goals each @ 3.78.

Aston Villa vs Chelsea

Aston Villa v Chelsea | Match | Official Site | Chelsea Football Club

For Chelsea fans, life is finally starting to regain a measure of normalcy with the Blues back in the English Premier League top four.

Todd Boehly was slammed by many for his decision to sack Thomas Tuchel and hire Graham Potter as the Champions League winning coach’s replacement. However, the Englishman has steadied the ship and got the Blues looking like a proper team once more.

Despite injuries to Reece James (sorry, FPL managers!) and Wesley Fofana, the current squad is good enough to be winning these kinds of games. With a resurgent Aubameyang back in the starting lineup, expect the Blues to look even more threatening than their last EPL game.

Aston Villa have something to cheer after tying wantaway midfielder, Douglas Luiz, to a new long-term contract. If the game plays out as we think, they won’t have much to cheer for on the pitch tomorrow. The home team has won just one of their last five games, losing once and drawing three games. Compare that to the visitors who have won four of their last five and drawn the fifth, and a positive Aston Villa result tomorrow looks like a big ask.

Our picks: Chelsea to win outright @ 1.85. Over 1.5 goals @ 1.36. Chelsea to win/draw + over 1.5 goals @ 1.65

 Manchester United vs Newcastle

Manchester United vs Newcastle: Live stream, TV channel, kick-off time & how to watch | Goal.com

One way to look at Thursday’s last gasp win over Omonia Nicosia at Old Trafford is that the Red Devils showed fight to win that game at the death. Another way to look at it is to be acutely aware that a display like that against Newcastle will most likely lead to a home loss.

The home side has been one of the best teams in the Premier League after recovering from a disastrous start. They have won four of their last five games and have the talent to make it 5 out of 6 tomorrow.

Newcastle, on the other hand, have underwhelmed somewhat after their early season promise. That 5-1 defeat of the same Brentford side that beat Manchester United 4-0 in August should impress on the home team how seriously they have to take this game, however.

With Anthony Martial out, Cristiano Ronaldo should finally make his first EPL start this season. Alongside him in attack will be Anthony and Marcus Rashford with Jadon Sancho struggling for form at the moment.

Prediction: This will be a tough one for United, but they should prevail as long as they maintain the high levels of play they showed to come back against Everton.

Our picks: Both teams to score @ 1.58. Over 1.5 goals @ 1.23. Manchester United to win/draw + over 1.5 goals @ 1.60.

 Liverpool vs Man City

Bitter Manchester City debut for Haaland | Marca

Before the season began, this was the game to watch as everyone expected both teams to be neck-and-neck at the top of the Premier League table as usual. It has not quite turned out how we all expected. The home side currently languish in 11th place and are expected to be defeated by a rampant Manchester City tomorrow.

Liverpool’s best player this season Luis Diaz, key defender, Joel Matip, and their creative force from right back, Trent Alexander-Arnold are all injured. Thankfully for Liverpool fans, Mo Salah seems to be back in form after bagging a hattrick in just five minutes against Rangers. If the Egyptian can rediscover the form of last season, Liverpool will have some hope here.

How Manchester City was given a free run at Haaland by the other top European clubs boggles the mind. With nine games played, the Norwegian striker is the clear favorite for the Golden Boot this season and will play a part in any successes the Cityzens enjoy this season. Virgil Van Dijk has looked very human this season, expect that to continue against a rampant Haaland tomorrow.

Our picks: Manchester City to win outright @ 1.90. Over 2.5 goals @ 1.48. Both teams know each other too well at this point, expect Liverpool to score at least. Bet on both teams to score @ 1.43.
