European Football betting preview and tips

Arsenal vs Tottenham

The first North London derby of the season has much more than bragging rights at stake this time around. Arsenal and Tottenham have only one point between them and whichever team wins will be top of the league (at least till Manchester City plays).

Arsenal and Tottenham have come out of the blocks flying in the Premier League. The Gunners are currently top of the league with 18 points, and Spurs are third, one point behind with 17 points accrued.

Last time out, Arsenal cruised to an impressive 3-0 away at Brentford. Mikel Arteta will be confident his team can carry that same form into his clash with Antonio Conte on Saturday. While Spurs have looked shaky at times this season, they have shown that they are ruthless in front of goal and have yet to lose a game this season.

Head to Head

Despite it being a fierce rivalry, the results often favour the Red side of North London when these two sides meet.

In their last 29 home games against Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal have lost only once and are unbeaten in their last 11 games against Spurs at the Emirates.

There have been 171 league meetings between Arsenal and Tottenham. Arsenal have won 68 matches, Spurs have won 55 with 47 of the matches ending in a draw.

Form Guide

Arsenal returned to winning ways against Brentford after suffering their first loss of the season against Manchester United in the previous match.

Other than that loss against Manchester United, Arsenal have been flawless this season, picking up 18 points from a possible 21.

Tottenham Hotspur

Like their rivals, Spurs have had an excellent start this season, dropping points only twice this season.

Along with Manchester City, they are the only unbeaten side in the Premier League this season.

They sit in third place on the league table and have efficiently won games under Antonio Conte’s tutelage. Last time out, they put 6 goals past a hapless Leicester City side to get their biggest winning margin of the season.

Team News

Kieran Tierney and Thomas Partey will have to pass a fitness test to determine if they will take part in the Derby. Both players returned early from the international break as a precaution after taking knocks while away with their countries.

Fortunately for Arsenal, Martin Odegaard, who missed the Brentford match, was fit enough to play in both of Norway’s matches and should be back in the team.

Although Takehiro Tomiyasu is fully fit now, expect Ben White to retain his place on the right side of the defence.

Potential Arsenal starting XI: Ramsdale; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko; Partey, Odegaard, Xhaka; Saka, Jesus, Martinelli.

Tottenham Hotspur

Fraser Forster could start in goal following Hugo Lloris’ withdrawal from the France squad due to injury. There is no update yet regarding his availability for Saturday’s game.

Dejan Kulusevski is also in doubt for the derby after picking up a hamstring injury while in action for Sweden. Richarlison should join Kane and Son in the attack in the absence of the Swede.

Potential Tottenham starting XI: Forster; Romero, Dier, Lenglet; Emerson, Bentancur, Hojbjerg, Perisic; Richarlison, Kane, Son.

Tactical Battle

Antonio Conte’s side seems designed as the perfect foil for Arteta’s new look side, great under pressure and efficient while counterattacking.

Although Arsenal have dominated teams usually from the kickoff, Spurs are elite in transition and the quality of their attack means the Arsenal defence cannot switch off like they did a couple of times against Manchester United.

The home side has often won this fixture regardless of form. However, this Tottenham side carries a veritable threat and despite not losing yet in the league, they look like they have another gear they can go up to. If that happens this Saturday, then Arteta’s young guns will need to step up their game if they do not want to lose at home to Spurs for the first time since 2010.

Arsenal have the home support and have used that hostile environment to their advantage, they should be able to do that again this Saturday. Arsenal win 2-1

In addition to the North London Derby, there are other European fixtures this weekend such as:

Liverpool vs Brighton

Liverpool host Brighton hoping they can find some semblance of consistency in a season where they have struggled to string wins together.

Jurgen Klopp is boosted by the return of Jordan Henderson and Ibrahima Konate and will hope that reinforcing his midfield will help against a Brighton side that has only lost once this season.

Brighton have replaced Graham Potter with Roberto De Zerbi who will be looking to build on Potter’s excellent work.

Liverpool have to be aware of the threat from Pascal Gross and Alexis Mac Allister, and should be prepared for a combative Moses Caicedo in midfield.

Prediction: Liverpool to win 2-1

Our Betting picks

Liverpool win @ 1.37

Liverpool and Brighton draw @ 5.25

Both teams score @ 1.85

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

Graham Potter makes the short trip to Selhurst Park on Saturday to take charge of his first Premier League match as Chelsea manager.

Chelsea have had a poor start to the season with their ten points in six matches leaving them in seventh place.

Crystal Palace, despite playing well under Patrick Viera, have struggled to turn those performances into results and sit four points behind Chelsea in sixteenth place.

While Chelsea are the favourites on paper to win this match, Crystal Palace have only lost once at Selhurst Park this season and will have Wilfred Zaha as the main antagonist of the Chelsea defence.

Prediction: Crystal Palace 1 – Chelsea 1

Our Betting picks

Crystal Palace and Chelsea draw @ 3.65

Both teams score @ 1.85

Inter Milan vs Roma

Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma travel to the San Siro to face Inter with both sides hunting for the maximum points that will take them to the top of the Serie A table.

Roma lost to Atalanta to lose some ground in the Serie A race and will be without Jose Mourinho on the sidelines after he was sent-off for clashing with the referee.

Inter Milan are a point behind AS Roma, they could leapfrog the team from the capital with a win in Milan and will need that home advantage with little separating both sides in terms of quality.

Prediction: Home advantage has counted more times than not in the Serie A,  Inter Milan will benefit from that home support to claim a narrow win. Inter 2 – Roma 1

Our Betting picks

Inter Milan win  @ 2.10

Both teams score @ 1.85

Sevilla vs Atletico Madrid

Sevilla and Atlético Madrid are both performing below expectations in the La Liga this season.

Sevilla sits at a lowly 15th place on the log with their only win so far coming against Espanyol three weeks ago.

Atlético Madrid on the other hand, are in seventh place after losing to Real Madrid last time out.

Atletico Madrid go into this clash needing a response after their Derby loss and will look to pile more pressure on a Sevilla team who have lost more games than they have won this season.

Prediction: Diego Simeone’s side should win what will likely be a low-scoring encounter.  Sevilla 0 – Atletico Madrid 1

Our Betting picks

Atletico Madrid win @ 2.55

Under 2.5 goals @ 1.65

PSG vs Nice

Paris Saint-Germain are poised to extend their lead at the top of the Ligue 1 table when they host Nice at the Parc des Princes.

Before the international break, PSG beat Lyon by a lone goal, while Nice lost by the same scoreline to Angers.

PSG are on a 25-game unbeaten streak at home in Ligue 1, and they host a Nice side with only two wins in eight matches.

Presnel Kimpembe and Marco Verratti might be unavailable for PSG, but should still be capable of getting a comfortable win against Nice, especially with the attacking triumvirate of Messi, Neymar and Mbappe.

Prediction: PSG haven’t lost at home since Lille beat them in April last year. They will likely keep that streak going against Nice this weekend. PSG 3 – Nice – 0

Our Betting picks

PSG win @ 1.18

Over 2.5 goals scored @ 1.33
