WTA Weekend Finals 🎾

The Sunday after the US Open, there are three finals on the WTA Tour. Tennis, as they say, never stops. Below are three Tennis tips to add to your Sunday accumulator. 

WTA Bucharest  

Reka Luca Jani v Irina-Camelia Begu 

Jani, probably the most unlikely finalist this weekend, earned herself a final spot in Bucharest with a hard-fought 7-5, 7-6(6) victory over Maryna Zanevska. The World No.114 now has a top 100 debut in sight. 

No.2 seed Begu easily dispatched veteran Sara Errani 6-2. 6-2 in the semifinals and being one of the favorites since the start of the tournament, it is really no surprise that she has come through the rounds without dropping a set. 

Head-to-head: First meeting 

Begu is the clear favorite here. Seeded, 73 places higher in the rankings, not new to playing in finals with five career WTA titles to her name.  

While Jani has shown admirable tenacity all tournament, experience will play a huge role in Begu snapping this one. This is quite straightforward and it would be wise to stake on the Romanian to win at 1.22 odds on BetKing. 

Chennai Open 

Magda Linette v Linda Fruhvirtova  

It certainly was not the way Linette would have liked to make it to the final, but after her semifinal opponent Katie Swan retired just three games into their match due to injury, the Pole booked s final spot anyway. So far, Linette has had a relatively easy run at the tournament, but she now faces a tricky hurdle in young Fruhvirtova. 

17-year-old Fruhvirtova has broken new ground by reaching her maiden WTA final. This was always coming, as the Czech has shown tremendous potential all year and is one of the tour’s most promising youngsters at the moment. She had to battle to get here, though, coming from a set down to defeat 2020 French Open semifinalist Nadia Podoroska 5-7, 6-2, 6-4.  

Head-to-head: First meeting 

This is a tricky one with three sets written all over it. You can get odds of 2.37 on this over on BetKing. 

Linette is the older and obviously more experienced player, but Fruhvirtova is no push over. The young Czech will certainly not make it easy for the 30-year-old.  

WTA Portoroz  

Katerina Siniakova v Elena Rybakina  

Siniakova was made to play two matches in one day due to a rain delay, but the World No.82 pulled it off nicely, taking out defending champion Jasmine Paolini 6-2, 3-6, 7-6(5) in the quarterfinals and Anna-Lena Friedsam 6-1, 7-5 in the semifinals. 

Wimbledon champion Rybakina had it smooth, downing Ana Bogdan 6-1, 6-1 to make her third final of the year. It is a much-needed run after some underwhelming results since clinching her first Grand Slam title in July. 

Head-to-head: Rybakina leads 4-2 

Heading into their seventh meeting, Rybakina is the favorite like she almost always has been. The Kazakh has won their last three meetings and comes into the title match fresher. Bet on her to win @ 1.31
