MIDWEEK BETTING TIPS (CHAMPIONS LEAGUE, EUROPA LEAGUE & CONFERENCE LEAGUE GAMES)

Death, taxes and Bayern Munich beating Barcelona. Last night’s round of UCL fixtures proved to be as compelling as ever. A late Liverpool goal settled the nerves of the Anfield faithful, Tottenham choked at the death again, proving that old habits die hard and Atletico Madrid and Porto suffered shock losses.

What can we expect today? Read on for our betting tips for the rest of the midweek European fixtures below!

Champions League group stage draw: 2022-23 campaign kicks off for 32 clubs - NBC Sports Boston

UEFA Champions League

Juventus v Benfica

Juventus’ struggles this season continue to be a concern and their performance against Salernitana over the weekend epitomised that. With Angel Di Maria, Federico Chiesa and Paul Pogba out injured, they’ve found it difficult to create chances from open play and have had to rely on set-pieces to get any form of meaningful attack. They host an in-form Benfica side who have won all their games this season in the the Portuguese Primeira Liga and the Champions League. As they showed last season when they finished 2nd at Barcelona’s expense, they will capitalise on their opponents’ weakness.

Prediction: Benfica to avoid defeat. Bet on x2 @1.65

Manchester  City v Borussia Dortmund

Man City face Dortmund with both sides coming into this game after wins in their opening games of the group stage. The German side will be facing familiar faces with Man City’s quartet of Ilkay Gundogan, Manuel Akanji, Sergio Gomez and the red hot Erling Haaland in line to face their former team.  While Man City’s defense has been breached this season on multiple occasions, they’ve been hit on the counter and the Dortmund players most suitable for hitting them in this fashion are battling injuries. Thorgan Hazard is still out with a thigh problem while Donyell Malen (thigh) and Karim Adeyemi (foot) could also be out after missing the 3-0 defeat at Leipzig over the weekend. Bsically, the English champions can keep a very high line, safe in the knowledge that the German side doesn’t have the players needed to breach that high line.

Prediction: Man City to keep a clean sheet @2.07

Maccabi Haifa v PSG

Maccabi Haifa’s Matchday 1 loss to Benfica (2-0) set a new Champions League record for most consecutive group stage losses without scoring (7). Against a PSG team who aren’t just free-scoring but also difficult to break down  – –  Gianluigi Donnarumma saved the 17th penalty of his career over the weekend which is an excellent feat for a 23-year-old – – Maccabi’s unwanted record could likely be extended to 8 games.

Prediction: PSG to keep a clean sheet @1.90

How Will the Europa Conference League Affect the Champions League and Europa League? - HowTheyPlay

EUROPA LEAGUE

Sheriff Tiraspol v Man. Utd

The Red Devils travel to Moldova to face a very confident Sheriff side whose only 2 losses in 16 games this season came in the Champions League qualifying rounds. However, Man Utd are going to be the hungrier side having lost on Matchday 1 to Real Sociedad. The postponement of their 2 league games against Crystal Palace and Leeds United mean they won’t be playing another game after Thursday till next month’s Manchester Derby. Erik ten Hag will have no reason to heavily rotate and is expected to field his strongest side which should be a handful for Sheriff.  The goals are expected to flow and Cristiano Ronaldo will be hoping he ends his goal drought.

Prediction: Man Utd To Score 3 in a Row @2.25

Braga v Union Berlin

Union Berlin are having the time of their lives in the Bundesliga. They sit on top of the German top flight for the first time in club history with 4 wins and 2 draws in 6 games. However, they did suffer a Matchday 1 loss to Belgian side, Union Saint-Gilloise in the Europa League. Braga are also unbeaten in the league but unlike Union Berlin, they got all 3pts on Matchday 1, thanks to a 2-0 win away at Malmo. Both sides head into this full of confidence but the visitors know a loss in this game would put them in danger of being eliminated and should be the more aggressive side.

Prediction: Union Berlin to avoid defeat, bet on x2 @1.62

Monaco v Ferencvarosi

Monaco hosts Hungarian side Ferencvarosi on the back of 3 consecutive wins by 1-goal margins including a 2-1 win over Lyon on Sunday. After a shaky start to the season that saw them win just once in their opening 5 games while also leaking goals, Philippe Clement seems to have found the balance for his team with new signing Breel Embolo finally settling in with 2 goals in his last 3 games.

Prediction: Monaco to win @1.40

CONFERENCE LEAGUE

Gent v Shamrock Rovers

Gent are heavy favourites against the Irish League leaders, Shamrock Rovers but the visitors will fancy their chances in this. Shamrock Rovers are coming off a 5-1 win in the league but would have concerns about their Matchday 1 performance at home to Swedish side Djurgårdens which ended goalless. Despite being the better team on paper, Gent have also struggled for form having lost 2, won 2 and drawn 1 in their last 5 games. The odds on Shamrock Rovers taking something from this game are definitely worth a shot.

Prediction: Shamrock to avoid defeat, x2 @3.00

Partizan v Nice

Partizan are a free scoring side but also leak goals which makes for a good viewing for neutrals. Their last 8 games have seen a total of 32 goals – an average of 4 goals per game. Games involving Nice haven’t been as entertaining with just 14 goals in the same period – an average of 1.75 goals per game. Regardless, there will be goals in this match and the Serbian hosts should provide a few of those.

Prediction: Over 2.5 Goals @1.90

İstanbul Başakşehir v Fiorentina

This should be a low scoring game by two evenly matched sides. Basaksehir, who sit 2nd in the Turkish Super Lig, were convincing 4-0 winners away at Hearts in the opening game of the Group Stage and followed it up with a 1-0 win away at Besiktas in the league. They face a Fiorentina side in poor form – winless in their last 7 games with just 3 goals scored in that period. İstanbul Başakşehir would fancy their chances against the Italians but this should be a low scoring affair.

Prediction: Under 2.5 Goals @1.70

Silkeborg v West Ham

West Ham are heavy favourites against their Danish hosts and should come out of this game with a victory. They were able to put their poor league form to the side in their first Group Stage game as they beat Romanian side FCSB, thanks to 3 second half goals after conceding a first half opener. With extra days of rest due to the postponed Premier League games over the weekend, they should be in top shape for the trip to Denmark.

Prediction: West Ham to win @1.57
