Fulham vs Liverpool | English Premier League match preview and betting prediction

How do you come back from finishing with just the two domestic trophies in a season where an unprecedented quadruple was within reach? And then after that your second-best player decides it’s time to leave.

For most clubs, it’s hard to bounce back from that, especially when your biggest rival just strengthened their squad again.

For Liverpool, however, the only available choice is to also strengthen and trust in your established players to set winning expectations for the new players. If, as expected, the new players bed in quickly, Liverpool will be title contenders again this season.

Fulham, on the other hand, are a newly-promoted team that have just one priority; to still be an English Premier League club when the 2023/24 season starts. S

tar striker, Aleksandar Mitrovic was the best player in the Championship last season. Their survival hopes will depend on how well he can adapt to the Premier League this time.

Does the new Premier League team upset a title favorite or will Liverpool roll over Fulham as expected?

Read on for our review below!

H2H

With 19 wins from 31 games, the Reds have almost three times as many wins as Fulham’s 7 victories in this fixture. The points have also been split five times.

The last time both teams met in the Premier League, Fulham snatched a 1-0 win at Anfield. The last five times both teams have met, however, Liverpool has dominated as expected with three wins and a draw against Fulham’s lone win.

Form guide

In four preseason fixtures, Fulham won twice, lost once and drew the last game. They scored seven goals and conceded seven goals in that period too.  Form over the last five games- (D-W-L-W-L)

There have been some high points but on the whole, Liverpool’s preseason has not gone as well as their fans would have hoped. In 6 games including the community shield, Liverpool won and lost three games each. (L-W-L-W-W-L)

Team news

Fulham: Defender, Joe Bryan (knock) Midfielder, Nathaniel Chalobah (slight knock) and forward, Harry Wilson (Knee injury) are all expected to miss Saturday’s game.

Bernd Leno, the new signing from Arsenal, is expected to start in goal for the Cottagers.

Predicted starting XI: Bernd Leno. Kevin Mbabu, Tosin Adarabioyo, Tim Ream, Antonee Robinson. Joao Paulinha, Harrison Reed. Bobby Reid, Andreas Pereira, Neeskens Kebano. Aleksandar Mitrovic. (4-2-3-1)

Liverpool: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Hamstring injury) is out again. Diogo Jota (Thigh injury), Curtis Jones (Calf injury), Caoimhin Kelleher (discomfort), Naby Keita (Illness), Ibrahima Konate (slight knock) are all out injured while new back-up right back, Calvin Ramsay lacks match fitness and is unlikely to start.

Key stats

Both sides were dominant last season. The difference between dominating the English Premier League and running riot in the Championship is a large one however, so comparisons of their recent League campaigns will not be applied here.

  1.  Both teams have let in goals recently and also scored a lot of goals. Fulham have scored 7 goals in their last five matches while Liverpool have scored 10 goals over the last five games.
  1. Last season, Aleksandar Mitrovic scored 43 goals in 44 appearances and laid on 7 assists for his teammates. How well he does against Van Dijk and Matip on Saturday will determine how well this season will go for him and Fulham.
  1. Last season, Bernd Leno played just 4 games for Arsenal, facing an xG of 9.16 and letting in 9 goals. Given that Liverpool is likely to create a lot of high-quality chances, he will need to be better to give his team a chance to claim a positive result.

Predictions

Bet on:

  • Liverpool to win @ 1.28
  • Liverpool to score at least two goals (Totals away team) @ 1.30
  • Darwin Nunez to score 20+ goals this EPL season @  3.00
