Young stars to be on the lookout for in the new season
Year in year out, the Premier league gives us some sensational performances by young lads. This is highly commendable as, despite the pressure they face in the most competitive league in the world, they can maintain their composure and keep their mind in showcasing their skills.
The English Premier League has produced young lads such as Cesc Fabregas, Christiano Ronaldo to mention a few who have gone on to conquer the whole of Europe with different clubs. Popular belief is that if as a young player, you can perform exceptionally in a topflight English club, then you can go on to perform anywhere regardless of the hurdles. From the pressure and attention, the English press mount on young stars to the welcoming reception the fans also give, it is not far fetched as to why young stars in EPL are well celebrated.
In this piece, we will look at some of the young stars to be on the lookout for in the 2021/22 season.
Carney Chukwuemeka (Aston Villa)
The 17-year-old wunderkind was very incredible last season and was described by Aston Villa’s CEO Christian Purslow as “Probably the best 16-year-old in England”. Chukwuemeka has lived up to this hype in the new season as he was recently described by the fans as the new Yaya Toure in the Premier League. After helping the under-18s side to victory in the FA Youth Cup, He was named the player of the season at the academy and attracted interests by the likes of Bayern Munich and Juventus in the Summer but decided to put pen to paper for Aston Villa. Confident, skilful and rangy, we expect that he will be a key player in his squad this season, We can’t wait to see him shine.
Billy Gilmour (Norwich)
The Scottish young star who was named man of the match when his side faced England in EUROs is currently on a season-long loan from Chelsea to Norwich. Gilmour is already a Known young lad in the Premier League as he was part of the squad that won the Champions League with Chelsea last season. Moreover, it is time for a player of high repute to add to his five Premier League starts. With the gap in the playmaking department of the team after Emi Buendía departure, It looks like the perfect platform for the young star to thrive.
Michael Olise (Crystal Palace)
Patrick Vieira’s first signing for Crystal Palace who registered 12 goals and seven assists for Reading last season and was named the Championship’s young player of the season is another young lad to be on the lookout for this season. The player who was signed for £8m will be 20 in December. His first task will be to compete for a place in the first team and once he can establish himself, the rest should be easy. He, unfortunately, has been out due to injury but he has the support of his manager once he gets back in action. Only time will tell if the young lad can carry the sensational form of last season into the new season.
Folarin Balogun (Arsenal)
Balogun signed a four-year contract in April and will be wearing the No 26 shirt in Arsenal. The 20-year-old will get his chance to prove himself this term as the Arsenal Manager Arteta is willing to give the young star a chance in his squad. He scored two goals in the Europa League last season although he never featured in the Premier League. Will Balogun add enough values to Arsenal’s attack?
