Round Up of Major Transfer Deals in the January Window
As the January transfer window closed shut at midnight February 1st, we look at some of the most notable transfer deals done this month.
Martin Odegaard on loan to Arsenal from Real Madrid.
Once a teenage sensation, Odegaard has not quite gotten his breakthrough yet. Lack of playing time in Zidane managed Real Madrid saw him push for a move to Arsenal on loan. It will be interesting to see how he develops under Arteta at Arsenal.
Fikayo Tomori on loan from Chelsea to AC Milan
With Thiago Silva, Zouma, Rudiger, Christensen all center back options competing for playing time at Chelsea, Fikayo secured a loan move away from Stamford Bridge to get more playing time and continue his development. The loan comes with an option to buy for AC Milan, it is left to be seen if that will be exercised.
Mesut Ozil free transfer to Fenerbahçe
After being frozen out of the Arsenal squad for months over footballing reasons, Ozil ran out of patience with his beloved Arsenal and former teammate, now coach Arteta and in talks with the club resolved to end his contract. Fenerbahce were waiting on the wings to sign him on a free transfer and Ozil has since traded London for life in Istanbul.
Lucas Piazon free transfer to Braga from Chelsea
Chelsea’s longest serving player who barely played for the club but had as many as 11 loan spells finally had his contract with the club terminated and secured a move to Braga. It never quite worked out for Lucas at Chelsea who was on of the gifted young players touted for success but failed to live up to expectations at Stamford Bridge
Cenk Tosun loan from Everton to Besiktas
Tosun arrived Everton from Besiktas in 2018 with high prospects for the Merseyside club. However, the striker has failed to find his footing and Besiktas who never quite slammed the door against him, have him back on loan for the remainder of the season.
Islam Slimani free transfer to Lyon from Leicester
After loans spells in Newcastle, Fenerbahce and Monaco, unsettled Algerian striker secured a free transfer to Lyon ending his spell at Leicester which went far less than what both parties hoped for.
Jesse Lingard loan to West Ham from Manchester United
Fans favorite Jesse Lingard has lost his place in the resurgent Manchester United side and West Ham is looking to give him a new lease of life. Lingard famous for his dance celebrations will be looking to recreate those moments again for the Hammers.
Sebastian Haller from West Ham to Ajax for £20m
Signed from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2019, Haller didn’t seem to adapt to life in West London and the 26 year-old subsequently got snapped by Ajax in a €22.5m deal.
Ozan Kabak to Liverpool from Schalke 04 on loan
Liverpool lacking defensive cover due to a plague of injuries to experienced defenders such as Van Dijk and Joel Matip, sealed a deadline day transfer for Ozan Kabak till the end of the season.
